Gramercy Shawl Free Crochet Pattern

I am so beyond thrilled to share another design in my new Shapes Of Things Series; The Gramercy Shawl free crochet pattern. This simple and meditative pattern will grow magically and create the perfect shawl. One of those put on your favorite show and what them stitches grow kind of patterns I promise!

It is perfect for the new Lion Brand LB Collection Anya Fibers. I was so excited that Lion Brand sent me some to use for this design. It was just perfect! I chose the color Rose Tattoo because... um yeah.... it is so me. Shades of blues and deep purples that make me drool and the fiber worked up like a dream for this pattern.

This pattern is meant to be used as a roadmap. It can be the foundation for you to follow and add colors, stripes, and truly make your own. I suggest following this simple pattern the first time you make it to get used to crochet on the bias, and to understand the shaping. Then try things out like adding stripes or trim or fringe. This pattern can also be a great stash buster!

You can try this with almost any yarn - I suggest worsted as the thickest weight but have also made this with sport and fingering weights and been so pleased with the results.

Materials
Category 4 Worsted Weight Yarn - 720 yards
3 Skeins of Lion Brand Hand Dyed Anya in color Rose Tattoo shown here
Crochet Hook: Furls Streamline H-8 / 5mm
Tapestry needle to weave ends
Tape Measure

Stitches Used / Abbreviations:
ch – chain loop
sc – single crochet
sc2tog – single crochet 2 together
st(s) – stitch(es)

PATTERN NOTES:

Begin with magic circle or ch 3, sl st together to form a circle.

GAUGE:  20 sts x 16 Rows in sc = 4” square (before blocking)

The gauge given is for the yarn used in design and to meet the designed measurements as shown.  If you use a different yarn, use the appropriate hook size for that yarn and this may effect your gauge.
You may see significant change in finished measurements after blocking.

Finished measurements BEFORE blocking:  66” x 39” x 39”
Finished measurements AFTER blocking:  84” x 46” x 46”

PATTERN:

Begin with magic circle or ch 3 and sl st together to form a circle. 
Then in either the magic circle or ch 3:

Row 1: Ch 1 (does NOT count as stitch), 3 sc,Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1 (does NOT count as stitch), sc in sc, 2 sc in each of next sc, Turn. 5 sc

Row 3: Ch 1 (does NOT count as stitch), sc across, Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1 (does NOT count as stitch), sc across, [2 sc] in last 2 sts of previous row, Turn. 2 sts inc’d, 7 sc

Row 5: Ch 1 (does NOT count as stitch), [2 sc] in last sc of previous row, sc across then sc2tog last 2 sts, Turn. 7 sts

Rows 6-190: Repeat Rows 4 & 5 alternating. 191 sc at the end of Row 190
Fasten Off.
Steam or wet block to let stitches settle.
Weave in all ends.

This will give you the size shown in sample. You may continue for a larger shawl - and will of course require more yarn.
