Spooky Spider Web Shawl

About a month ago, Shaina E on  The Crochet Addiction Facebook group posted a photo of a spider web shawl/poncho that she designed and free-handed.  I thought it was so clever, and I thought I could probably recreate it.

This would be the first time I ever tried to recreate something by a picture.  I did recreate her design, and I think mine came out pretty close to hers.  She said she just used all treble crochet (tr) and chains, but I had my stitches grow from double crochet (dc) to quadruple treble crochet (qtc).  I may have made that last stitch up.  I haven’t seen anything written about that one, but I imagine it’s out there somewhere.

I wrote my pattern as I created it.  I contacted Shaina and asked her if I could share my recreation pattern for free and she said yes.  So here is my version of her spider web shawl, that she designed.  I hope you like it.

Stitches (US terms):

  • magic ring (mr)
  • slip stitch (slst)
  • chain (ch)
  • single crochet (sc)
  • double crochet (dc)
  • treble crochet (tr)
  • double treble crochet (dtc)
  • treble treble crochet (trtr)
  • quadruple treble crochet (quadtr)

Moogly has some info on those taller stitches.  Turns out I didn’t invent the quadruple treble stitch, but I didn’t really think I invented it.  I just had a difficult time finding it.
