Back in
2000, a lady sent me some
adorable
slippers for a shelter I serve. I decided to try to make some that
looked like them.
Here is what I came up with- you basically
Double Crochet a rectangle, fold in half lengthwise, and stitch it into
a slipper:
Hook
size H (5.00 mm)
Approximately 2 oz of worsted weight yarn and baby yarn held together
Gauge using 2 strands
of yarn: 2 rows = 2"
; 6 dcs = 2"
Women's size L
using 1 strand ww yarn and 1 strand of baby yarn makes a 'slipper
rectangle' 10.5" x 8"
Ch 22 - 25 (for kids), (30 women's M or 33 women's L), (38 for men-or
nearly as long as the foot)
*(Alternative
toe end sent by Ann--
For
a child size at the toe end for every other row: 2-SC, then 3-HDC, then
continue all DC
to the heel.
For
an adult size at the toe end for
every other:
3-SC, then 4-HDC, then continue all DC to the heel.")
Row 1:
DC in 3rd ch from hook and in each *ch
across,
(go thru both loops) ch 3 and turn.
Row 2:
Now DC in each dc across, ch 3 turn.
Rows: 3-11,
(14), (15 or 16) (this is the width and can be adapted to individual
foot size):
Repeat row 2,
end off with a 12" tail of yarn.
You are actually making a rectangle
which, when you are done, you fold in half lengthwise.
The toe
will be at one end, the heel at the other.
Weave in and out with
yarn at the toe end and pull tightly to gather the toe.
Then
stitch a seam toward the heel part... leaving enough open for the foot
to go in.
Make a few back sts over what you just did, cut
yarn. Now reattach it at the heel and stitch that 4" or so
shut. It should look like a slipper. Flip it right side out
and tada!
These crochet up quickly and you could do them in any size by varying the number of sts and rows.
