My addiction to making summer tops continues! Oh guys I’m so excited to share this little number with you all. I love it’s simplicity and how easy it is to customize to any size. I think the picot edging adds a little something. I just adore it.
The sizing guide is S(M, L, XL, 2XL)
*ch 1 does NOT count as a stitch.
This pattern uses standard American crochet terms.

PATTERN:
Begin ribbed bottom edge:
Using 4 mm hook
Ch 13
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc to end. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in BLO across. Turn.
Repeat row 2 until you have a total of 100(108, 116, 124, 132) rows
Slst the two end together. Turn inside out so the seam is in the inside.
Change to 5 mm hook
Next round: Ch 1, sc 100(108, 116, 124, 132) around. Slst into first sc to close. TURN
Repeat this round until the top covers your breasts and you are ready to start on the “V” neck. I did about 5 inches in rounds of sc but it’s entirely up to you.
After your last round make sure to TURN YOUR WORK
From where you are now count out 25(27, 29, 31, 33) sts. Place a stitch marker into that stitch.
Continuing on from where your hook is now, ch 1, sc2tog, sc across until you reach the 2nd st from the stitch marker, sc2tog. TURN
Next row: ch 1, sc across. Turn.
Next row: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each st across until 2 sts remain, sc2tog. Turn
Repeat last two rows until 3 sts remain.
Next row: ch 1, sc in next 3 sts. Turn. Repeat this row until the strap is long enough to go around your shoulder and be able to stitch it to the back of the top later. Fasten off leaving a long tail.
For the other side:
Attach yarn to the stitch directly beside the first front “panel”, then:
Count 25(27, 29, 31, 33) stitch to the left and place a stitch marker into that stitch.
Continuing on from where you are now:
Ch 1, sc2tog, sc across until you reach the 2nd st from the stitch marker, sc2tog. Turn.
Next row: ch 1, sc across. Turn.
Next row: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each st across until 2 sts remain, sc2tog, turn
Repeat last 2 rows until 3 sts remain.
Next row: ch 1, sc in next 3 sts. Turn. Repeat this row until the strap is the same length as the other strap. DO NOT FASTEN OFF
Change back to 4 mm hook
Continuing on from where you are now we are going do sc down along the edge of the strap, down along the side of top, across the back, up along the other side, then along the edge of the other strap, all along the very top edge of the top until we meet at the very first sc we made.
When you reach back to that first sc again make a slst into the first sc.
Next:* Pst, skip next sc, sc into next, repeat from * all the way along the strap, the sides of top, along the back, up the other side, along the edge of other strap, along the top edge of top and back up along the first strap. Slip stitch to the first Pst to close.
Fasten off. Stitch the straps to the back of the top and you are good to go!
To get a perfect fit start off by making the ribbed bottom edge. Make enough rows of BLO sc until the band is long enough to go around the waist. Slip st ends togther.
Now for the main body of the top: sc the same amount of rows you had for the band. So, if you did 112rows for the band you will make 112 sc along the top edge of the band.
Keep going with rounds of sc until the top covers your boobs!
To divide for the v neck you will divide the number of sc you had for the body by 4.So if you had 112 sc for the body, dividing that by 4 equals to 28. So for the first side of the v neck you will count out 28 sc and mark that stitch. Then do as the pattern states etc.

Hello!
I’m just starting crochet and I’ve got the ribbed portion done but always end up adding stiches going around to form the body. Is it 100 single and then the slip stich? Doesn’t the slip stich add a stich? Please help!
Priscilla
Hi -Its is 100 and the slip stich. I have a tip that worked for me: I was counting the first careers and being careful not to add.

the slip stitch shouldnt add a stitch it just combines the first and last I believe

What yarn did you use for this top? Was it a cotton yarn?
