It’s been a while since I last blogged. Honestly, I can’t remember what I blogged about. A lot has happened n the world and in our communities where I needed to take another break from everything. I’ve post on Instagram here and there but I still get overwhelmed with everything that’s going on especially within the African American community because it directly affects me as I’m an African American woman.
I’ve been making and designing shawl, cowl and hat patterns for the fall but I haven’t been motivated to write them up nor publish them. To some that might sound ridiculous, but for me it’s how my brain and body takes care if itself. If I’m overwhelmed I will stop doing everything to get my peace of mind along with mental and physical health back by any means necessary and for me that means not designing. Designing can be very overwhelming because of the “Will they like it enough to buy it?” that goes through your mind on a continuous loop.
As the months have gone by we find ourselves in new territory. I’ve never worked from home before the pandemic happened and quite frankly, I’m still getting used to it even though I’ve been doing it since MARCH. I find that some days I have free time and other days I’m busy from early morning to late afternoon when I stop work.
Today was one of those slow days so I decided to write this pattern up and post it to my blog! I designed and made this shawl last August. After many iterations, I finally decided on the classic granny stitch triangle. If you made or seen my Picots and Valleys pattern then you should be familiar with the granny stitch pattern and construction of this shawl.
I was inspired by a building colors and shape that’s next to my job. I loved the colors so much I sourced out yarns that matched them exactly and I found them on WeCrochet. Did you know that WeCrochet is the sister company to Knit Picks? It’s a website for crocheters and yarn enthusiasts. I used their Capretta Fingering , Gloss Fingering and Bare Stroll Glimmer Fingering for this shawl. So enough of my yammering, the pattern is down below. You can also get an inexpensive pdf here
Project Level: Easy/Beginner
Gauge: 6 sts x 6 rows= 4×4” Square (10.2cm)
Measurements: 63″ across straight edge at top x 29 1/2″ from top to point.

2 skeins WeCrochet Capretta Fingering in Moonstone Heather(80% Fine Superwash Merino Wool, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon; 230yds/50gr); Color D
2 skeins WeCrochet Capretta Fingering in Tansy Heather( 80% Fine Superwash Merino Wool, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon; 230yds/50gr); Color C
1 skein WeCrochet Gloss fingering in Robot(70% Merino Wool, 30%silk, 220yds/50gr); Color A
1 skein WeCrochet Bare Stroll Glimmer Fingering( 70% Fine Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon, 5% stellina; 462yds/100gr); Color B

Double Crochet- dc Slip Stitch- sl st
Magic Circle Chain Space- Ch-sp Granny Stitch- 3dc in ch-sp
Pattern Notes
1. Beginning Ch 4 does count as a dc + ch 1 throughout the pattern unless stated otherwise.
2. When changing colors, pull your next color through the last 2 loops of the dc at the end of your row for a seamless color change.
Pattern Instructions
With Color A, create a magic circle, Ch 4. Alternately, you can Ch 4, sl st to the first ch to form a ring.
Row 1: Granny st, ch 3, Granny st, ch 1, dc into the ring. Turn, ch 4. Row 2: Granny st in ch1-sp, ch 1, skip next 3 sts (Granny st, ch 3, Granny st) in ch3-sp, ch-1, skip 3sts, Ganny st in last ch1-sp, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch of ch 4. Turn, ch 4.
Row 3: Granny st in ch1-sp, ch 1 Skip 3sts, Granny st in next ch1-sp repeat from to until ch3-sp (Granny st, ch3, Granny st) in ch3-sp, repeat instructions from to until last ch1-sp, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch of ch 4. Turn, ch 4.
Row 4-7: repeat row 3 changing to color B at end of row 7
Row 8-10: repeat row 3 changing to color C at end of row 10
Row 11-15: repeat row 3 changing to color B at end of row 15
Row 16-18: repeat row 3 changing to color D at end of row 18
Row 19-25: repeat row 3 changing to color B at end of row 25
Row 26-28: repeat row 3 changing to color C at end of row 28
Row 29-33: repeat row 3 changing to color C at end of row 33
Row 34-36: repeat row 3 changing to color A at end of row 36

Edging
