Hello everyone. This weeks pattern is for a crochet unicorn.
I love unicorns, way before unicorns were a thing, and a unicorn was the first softie I attempted to make when I started crocheting a few years ago.
That unicorn was made to a pattern I found on the interweb and it was gorgeous. However it was also BIG. Some time after I made my first unicorn I was asked if I made slightly smaller versions of them. I experimented a bit and this is what I came up with.
Made with chunky wool this smaller unicorn is 8″ tall.
Crochet Unicorn Pattern.

Chain 18. Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook make 4sc into each chain. The tail will naturally start curling as you progress along the chain. Make 6 squiggles for the tail. attach to row 8 from the bottom of the body.
Mane
The mane is the bit that makes this unicorn so sweet. I cut each strand of yarn for the mane 4 ” long but you can make it as longer or shorter as you wish. Likewise I like my mane to be very thick and full, but you alter this.
Holding two strands of yarn together, insert your hook in the top of the unicorn head where you want to attach the yarn, and pull the two strands through enough to make a loop. Pull all 4 ends through the loop and tighten. Repeat until the mane is as thick as you want. I tend to give my unicorn mane a little trim once it has been completed just to tidy up any long ends.
The end result is a unicorn that any boy or girl would love to own.

Hi Amber as a rough guide if you go down a hook size and use 4 weight yarn your unicorn will be about 2/3rds the size.

Hi. I am wondering how much of a difference in size you think it will make to do this with 4 weight yarn?

I love it, I’ll have to have a go. I don’t think I have a complete rainbow of colours though so I’ll have to compromise.
