Aliz Bag

Blog post may contain affiliate links. Using the links I provide does not cost you anything additional.

I created this beautiful bag for my friend’s birthday and named it after her. Also, I made the bag in her favourite colors too which added a nice personal touch to the gift.

I absolutely love designing bags as they’re not just useful but cute, practical on the go, environmental friendly and work up super quick!

Please enjoy my newest design, the Aliz Bag which is as cute as the person I made it for! 🙂

                                                                                  1, 5”/4 cm wide

and

 Color 2: 74.5 yards / 68 meters (40 grams) of worsted/aran weight 100% cotton yarn {I used Drops Love You 8 in Dark Heather (Color 1) and Heather (Color 2)}

or alternatively you can use any other aran/worsted 100% cotton yarn

Stitches used and Abbreviations:

CH = chain

ST/STS = stitch/stitches

SM = stitch marker

SP = space

SK = skip

SLST = slip stitch

SC = single crochet

HDC = half double crochet

HDC3LO = half double crochet 3rd loop only

DC = double crochet

Puff ST = puff Stitch

Crab ST = crab stitch

{} =indicates how many stitches go into the same stitch or used to repeat a small set of instructions between these brackets the number of times given

[] = used to repeat a medium length set of instructions between these brackets, the number of times given

Additional terms/ Special Stitches:

Stitches in the HDC 3rd loop only (HDC3LO):

Look at the top of the stitch and locate the sideways ”V”, bend the stitch to look at the back and you should see another ”V”. You will be working into the back loop of that ”V”. This creates a nice, braided look.

Puff Stitch (Puff ST):

  1. Yarn over hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, pull up a long loop through that stitch (3 loops on hook)
  2. Yarn over hook again, insert hook into the same stitch, pull up a loop (same height as the previous one) twice more. You should have 7 loops on your hook. (Picture 1.)
  3. Yarn over and pull through 6 loops, (2 loops remain on your hook) (Picture 2.)
  4. Yarn over and pull through both remaining loops. (Picture 3-4.)

(This way, you will only have 1 loop on top of the puff stitches, instead of 2)

1.

2.

3.

4.

Crab Stitch (Crab ST):

Crab stitch, also known as reverse single crochet is worked as a single crochet but in the opposite direction as normal which creates a nice corded appearance.

Insert hook from front to back in the next stitch on the right (if you are left handed, insert hook into the next stitch on the left). Yarn over, pull up a loop (two loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through both loops (one loop left on hook). That completes the first crab stitch. As you add more, the corded appearance starts to show.

Gauge: 4 SC and 4 Rows = 1” (2.5 cm)

Additional notes:

  • If a round starts with a chain 1, that’s not counted as a stitch, unless stated otherwise.
  • Slip stitches do not count as stitches.
  • US terms used throughout
  • At the end of every round, there’s going to be a note with the stitch count, so you can keep track of your work easily and avoid any mistakes. It’s written in a different color, in bold.
  • Notes are written in a different color in (brackets) to help you through the pattern.
  • You can start each round as I did in the pattern or you can use a standing stitch or chains, it’s totally up to you!
