Drawstring Pumpkin Pouch Pattern

Hello and welcome to my first pattern of fall! While I worked on other Halloween-related projects, my boyfriend had a great idea for these pumpkin pouches. I decided to do one in classic orange and one in white since that’s my boyfriend’s favorite color. You can use these pouches for just about everything: change, knickknacks, a dice bag, etc. This pattern is worked in joined rounds using front post double crochet stitches to create the ridges on the side. The top of the bag closes using a drawstring that looks like the pumpkin’s stem. Get ready for this spooky season with this cute drawstring pumpkin pouch! Let’s get started…

Materials:

  • Color A
    • I used one skein of Red Heart Super Saver in the colors pumpkin and white. You can find the exact yarn I used here.
  • Color B
    • I used one skein of Red Heart Super Saver in the color medium thyme. You can find the exact yarn I used here.
  • 5.00 mm crochet hook.
  • A yarn needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

st(s) – stitch(es)

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

mc – magic circle

sc – single crochet

sc inc – single crochet increase

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

dc inc – double crochet increase

dc dec – double crochet decrease

fpdc – pront post double crochet

Rnd – round

() – the total number of stitches at the end of each round

** – Repeat

Notes:

  • This pattern is worked in joined rounds. This means you will slip stich to the top of the beginning chain to finish the round.
  • The chain 3 or 1 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a stitch. This means the first stitch of each round is worked in the same stitch as the chain 3 or 1.
  • The front post double crochet stitches of each round should line up with the ones from the previous round.

Rnd 16: Ch 1, *3 sc in ch 2 spaces, sc in the next st* (32)

Fasten off and weave in all the ends.

Drawstring:

Ch 70

Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, alternate doing a sc and a sc inc for about 10-15 sts. This creates the spiral at the end of the string. I also chose to knot the other end of the string because I like how it looks.

Finishing:

Weave the drawstring through the holes created in round 15 of the pouch.

Congrats on finishing this pattern. I hope you guys enjoyed it! These pumpkin pouches are quick and easy to make. It only took me about half an hour to do one. I enjoyed making this pattern because pumpkins are my absolute favorite part of the fall season. I have so much planned for the next few months. My two favorite holidays are coming up (Halloween and Christmas). So be on the lookout for new blog posts and patterns. I hope you had some fun here today. Take care.

Happy Crafting!
