A friend of mine is having a baby girl and I wanted to make her something cute and dainty; it’s a girl after all!!! I live in a house surrounded by boys, most of my clients request items for boys, and there are only little boys in my extended family, soooo…. when I heard my girlfriend was having a girl, I seized the opportunity to buy pink!!!! Woo, pink!! I looked around for a while for a super cute and dainty hat and I came across this lovely hat by Oombawaka Designs and it was appropriately named My Dainty Princess Hat. I fell in love with the special stitch used to create the pattern. I also thought giving just a bunch of hats was nice, but a matching hat and cardigan would be better. So I took the special stitch used to create My Dainty Princess Hat and turned it into a cardigan. This pattern has not yet been tested. If you find any errors please leave me a comment to let me know. This pattern makes a cardigan to fit a baby 0-3 months old.

Materials needed
Worsted weight (4) yarn, I used Bernat Giggles
F/5 – 3.75mm hook
Tapestry needle
Decorative snap button (optional)

2 dc/hdc clusters and 2 rows = 1 inch
Abbreviations
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
st = stitch
sts = stitches
sl st = slip stitch
dc2tog = double crochet 2 together
F/O = fasten off
** Special Instructions **
dc/hdc clusters: Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 hoops twice (double crochet). Yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch as the double crochet, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
Dc2tog: yarn over and insert hook into next stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops left on your hook). Now yarn over again and insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops left on your hook), now yarn over and pull through all 3 loops. Here is a photo tutorial of how to dc2tog.
Raglan sleeve assembly: Please take a moment to read the entire pattern before starting. If you have any questions on how to assemble all the pieces together, please do not hesitate to contact me. Trim on Front Panels
With the right side of the panel facing up, with the raw side edge facing you and on the side without the dec, attach yarn to the corner with a slst.

Row 3: Ch 2, * 2 dc in next st, slst in next st *. Repeat from * to * across. (34 sts/17 dc clusters)

Collar
Attach yarn with slst on the right hand side of the cardigan neck.
Row 1: Ch2, 1 hdc across the top from right to left, turn. (approx 35 sts)
Row 2: Ch 2, 1 hdc across, turn. (approx 35 sts)
Row 3: Ch 2, * 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st *. Repeat from * to * 6 times. 1 hdc in the next X sts. 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st *. Repeat from * to * 6 times, turn. (approx 59 sts)
Row 4: Ch 2, * 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st *. Repeat from * to * 6 times. 1 hdc in the next X sts. 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st *. Repeat from * to * 6 times, turn. (approx 83 sts)
Row 5: Ch 2, 1 hdc across. (approx 83 sts)
F/O and weave in ends.
** note: you can add more stitches or less stitches, rows and/or increases on your collar to get the desired look you want.
Assembly
** note: I strongly suggest you pin your work together before sewing to make sure the rows match up.
With wrong sides facing together and starting at the bottom, sew the front left panel to the back up until you hit the decrease section of the work. Sew the sleeves, inside out from the cuff to the start of the decrease section. With the sleeve seems facing downwards and lining up with the back/front left seem, sew the back to one section of the sleeve and the front left panel to the other section of the sleeve. Repeat for right side. Turn right side out. Finish with a decorative snap button.
These are horrible diagrams (I tried!) but I hope they give you a better idea of how to attach the raglan sleeve style of this cardigan.

Hi I’ve done row 17 of the back and I am left with 36 stitches but when I do row 18 I’m always left with 32 I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, there’s meant to be 30

I am new to crochet. I have some questions did you made this pattern with hdc cluster? You did not mention that whether there should be a chain after each cluster or not. I tried this pattern with dc cluster but it did not turned like you . Can you please give clear instruction for the pattern rows?

Each cluster is 1dc and 1hdc in the same stitch, you then skip the next stitch and 1dc/1hdc in the following stitch. There should be no chain after each cluster, just a skipped stitch from the previous row.
Here is what 1 cluster is made up of… no chains afterwards, just as written.

To make in a bigger size do I just increase my yarn weight and hook
I have only made this in one size and never tried to augment the pattern for other sizes. It will change the sizing if you increase the weight and hook size but I have no clue by how much.
