#11 – Twist Bracelet

image

This week I wanted to challenge myself to create something new again, so here is my second original pattern! This little guy is a great way to use up some of those mini leftover yarn balls, as well as create a cute accessory that is great for gifting or keeping for yourself!

  • 1/64 skein of Caron Simply Soft – a worsted weight (4) yarn (above colour A: Grey Heather)
  • 1/64 skein of Caron Simply Soft – a worsted weight (4) yarn (above colour B: Country Blue)
  • Size H (5.0 mm) hook
  • 1 button

Pattern by tick-tock hobbies

(abbreviations: SCFC = single crochet foundation chain)

  1. SCFC 30* stitches
  2. Slip stitch into the seventh** stitch from the hook
  3. Change to colour B
  4. SCFC 22* stitches
  5. Twist the two strands around each other
  6. Slip stitch into the last stitch of colour A
  7. Leave a long tail to attach the button

*Any value can be easily adjusted for different wrist sizes – that’s the beauty of the single crochet foundation chain! It’s easy to increase or decrease length without having to frog everything and start over with a new foundation chain. These values fit my wrist, which is a little over 5 inches.

** This will depend on the size of your button – bigger buttons will need more stitches in the loop, but smaller buttons will require less. Play around with it to see what works!

My biggest struggle, as always, is weaving in the ends. It’s especially important in this pattern as the ends help to hold the “twist” in position. I’ll continue to practice working with my ends though! Please let me know if there is anything about this pattern that is unclear, and I will try to clarify it! I’m still not really sure how much information needs to be in a written pattern. If you try this pattern out, please feel free to tag it with #ticktockhobbies on Instagram so that I can see it!

I’ve also added a brief tutorial about how to do a single crochet foundation chain, but I’ve also included a video link here in case you are more of a visual learner. She starts the actual demo at the 1:30 mark. I actually prefer reading about stitches rather than watching, but that’s probably just me. This is similar to the half-double crochet foundation chain that I used in the braided headband!

Single Crochet Foundation Chain Tutorial

  1. Chain 2 stitches
  2. Insert the hook into the first stitch and pull the yarn through- you should now have two loops on your hook
  3. Yarn over and pull through the first loop – you should still have two loops on your hook
  4. Yarn over and pull through both loops – you should now have one loop on your hook. This is one SCFC
  5. Insert the hook on the bottom of the chain to the closest stitch and pull the yarn through – you should now have two loops on your hook
  6. Repeat steps 3 – 4 to complete your second SCFC

I hope you guys liked this pattern and mini tutorial! If you are interested in the bracelet but don’t have the time to make it for yourself, you can also purchase it from me!
