Free Shawl Crochet Pattern

Size: Width - 74" (185 cm), depth - 41" (102 cm)

Materials: Nashua Handknits Geologie aran weight yarn, 142 yards (130 meters) / 50 gr, color Citrine - 12 balls

Hook: F (3.75 mm)

Gauge: motif size is 10" (25 cm)

Directions

Chain 10, join with sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: ch 3, *ch 2, 4 dc into ring, repeat from *5 times, ch 2, 3 dc into a ring, sl st to ch 3.
Round 2: ch 3, 1 dc into the sl st of the prev round, *ch 3, 2 dc into the 1 st dc of the prev round, 2 dc over next 2 dc, 2 dc into the last dc of the 4-dc group, from * repeat 5 times, ch 3, 2 dc into the 1 st dc of the prev round, 2 dc over next 2 dc, sl st to the ch 3.
Round 3: ch 3, 1 dc into the sl st of the prev round, *ch 7, 2 dc into the 1 st dc of the prev round, 4 dc over next 4 dc, 2 dc into the last dc of the 6-dc group, from * repeat 5 times, ch 7, 2 dc into the 1 st dc of the prev round, 4 dc over next 4 dc, sl st to the ch 3.
Round 4: ch 3, 1 dc into the sl st of the prev round, *sc, 2 dc into the 1 st dc of the prev round, 6 dc over next 6 dc, 2 dc into the last dc of the 8-dc group, from * repeat 5 times, sc, 2 dc into the 1 st dc of the prev round, 6 dc over next 6 dc, sl st to the ch 3.
Round 5: ch 31, sc into sc of the prev round, *ch 30, sc into 2nd dc, ch 30, sc into 4th dc, ch 30, sc into the 7th dc, ch 30, sc into the 9th dc, repeat from * 5 times, ch 30, sc into 2nd dc, ch 30, sc into 4th dc, ch 30, sc into the 7th dc, ch 15, crochet with 7 yarn overs.
Round 6: ch 7, sc into top of ch 30, repeat to the end of the round.
Round 7: 2 sl sts to the middle of ch 7, *ch 3, (4 dc, ch 1, 4 dc) into ch 7, ch 3, sc into ch 7, (ch 7, sc) 3 times, from * repeat 6 times. Tie off.

Alternate Round 7 (to connect to another motif): 2 sl sts to the middle of ch 7, ch 3, 4 dc, sl st to the ch 1 of the other motif, 4 dc into ch 7, *ch 3, sc into ch 7, (ch 3, sl st to ch 7 of the other motif, ch 3, sc) 3 times, ch 3, 4 dc, sl st to the ch 1 of the other motif, 4 dc into ch 7. This connects 1 side of the hexagon motif. Repeat from * to connect another motif, or continue as regular Round 7.

Crochet 22 motifs and join them according to the diagram below:



Border (see schematic)

Round 1: *ch 7, sc, repeat along the edge of the shawl, end with sl st to the first ch7.
Round 2: *ch 7, sc, repeat 3 times, to fill the space between two motifs work ch 10, sc, ch 16, sc, ch 24, sc, (ch 30, sc) 3 times, ch 24, sc, ch 16, sc, ch 10, sc. Repeat for each space between motifs. At the ends of the shawl work ch 7, sc in the ch 7 of the previous round.
Round 3: *ch 7, sc into ch 7 of the prev round; to finish filling the corners work as follows: ch 7, sc into ch 10, ch7, sc into ch 16, ch 3, sc into ch 24, (ch 1, sc into ch 30) 3 times, ch1, sc into ch 24, ch 3, sc into ch 16, ch 7, sc into ch 10.
Rounds 4-8: *ch 7, sc, repeat along the edge of the shawl, end with sl st to the first ch7. Tie off

Finishing
Block the shawl
