Granny Triangular Shawl is an excellent canvas to experiment with color; it’s beginners friendly and takes very little time to show rewarding results.
This basic pattern provides a guideline for those who like the Ombre effect and wish to apply it to a simple wearable accessory.
Granny’s Ombre Triangular Shawl is worked from top down using size 5mm Crochet Hook and Worsted Weight Yarn.
The design is made as one size fits all with notes at the end to customize the size of your shawl

Last Row = 46 Clusters + 45 One Chain Sps
With Color A, Ch 5 and join to make a Ring

Finishing Tip
Thread the Tapestry needle with the Beginning tail and wrap the Beginning Chain Ring to form a Thick Little Handle then weave in and secure the rest of the tail. Use the Thick Little Handle to hang your shawl without the worries of stretching or damaging any stitches.
How To Avoid Mistakes
- All 3Dc clusters are separated by 1 Chain so to avoid confusing the spine clusters with adjacent 3Dc clusters, place a removable marker in the Spine 1 Chain Space
- Using three colors help counting rows so every time you finish one section count that section edge clusters or spine clusters to make sure you have the right count
How To Customize Your Shawl
- Increasing or decreasing rows will increase or decrease the size of your shawl
- The best way to make your shawl smaller is to decrease the number of rows in First Section
- The best way to make your shawl larger is to increase the number of rows in Third & Fifth Sections
How To Fold Your Shawl
1. Fold in half horizontally and make sure the tip of the middle triangle is on top of the Beginning Chain Ring
2. Fold one wing towards the middle
3. Fold second wing on top of the first wing
4. Fold in half horizontally
5. Fold in thirds or fourths if possible
