Baby's Hat  (and blanket below!)
Copyright Gayle Benoit, 2007 - All Rights Reserved
This hat pattern can be worked in different colors like the one in the picture. If there are any questions, please let me know.
***This is worked using 2 strands of baby sport weight yarn (Bernat Softee Baby)

Pattern sizes: Preemie (Newborn) (6 months) (12 months) (18 months)
Hook size H or I

Ribbing:
Row 1: Ch 5 or 7 (depending on the desired width of the ribbing), sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2-35 (44) (44) (52) (56): if you desire to work in back loops, ok. I don't. Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn, do not fasten off.
Hat:
Row 1: Work 2sc in first row of ribbing, sc across row end of
ribbing with 2sc in last row, ch 1, turn.
Row 2-7 (10) (14) (15) (15): sc in 1st sc, sk 2 sts *(sc, ch 2, 2dc) in next st or ch-2 sp, sk 2 sts, rep from * across, ending with 1 dc in last st, ch 1, turn.
Row 8 (11) (15) (16) (16): sc in 1st st, * skip next dc, sc in next dc, sc in ch-2 sp, sc in next sc, rep across ending with sc in last st. Turn.

Tassel:
Last row (all sizes): * Ch 12, sc in next sc, rep from * across.
Leave at least 12" tail for weaving tassel closed.

Keeping the tassel to one side, weave strand in and out across top row. Then carefully, turn hat inside out to sew side seam with seam on inside of hat. I just sc across seam area and fasten off.
