Crochet Suede Baby Booties

I fell in love with the knitted version of these found all over the internet. I prefer to crochet projects like this; however, I could not find a suitable pattern. So I finally made up my own.
.
My Ugg looking booties
.
Size approximately 6-9 months with insole
and 9-12 months with insole taken out
Not recommended for new walkers on hard wood floors ; )

Machine wash / reshape and air dry
Washing Tip ~ Place booties inside a knee high and tie at top before washing.

MATERIALS
1 skein of each makes many booties
1 – Lion Suede, coffee
Color A
1 - Lion Suede, mocha (I think it would be terribly cute to substitute this color with rose, denim or accrue)
Color B
1- Patons Divine, Icicle
Notions: Crochet Hook size G/6 & H, Tapestry needle, thin cord elastic. St markers (or yarn scraps to mark stitches)

ABBREVIATIONS
Ch =chain
St= stitch
Sc=single crochet
Hdc= half double crochet
Ss= slip stitch
Rnd= round
Dc= double crochet
Sk= skip

INSOLE Using Icicle
With H hook chain 10

RND 1 - Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 5, hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 5 hdc in next (do not use the last ch, pull through to back side of insole). Now working down opposite side back loops of starting ch, 2 hdc in next, hdc in next, sc in next 5, 2 sc in next.

RND 2 - 2 sc in first sc of last rnd, sc in next 8 sts, *2 sc in next, sc in next* 3 times, sc in next 8, 2 sc in next, sc in next, ss, tie off.
.
(BOTTOM) SOLE
Using Color A and G/6 hook chain 10

RND 1 - Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 5, hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 5 hdc in next (do not use the last ch, pull through to front). Now working down opposite side back loops of starting ch, 2 hdc in next, hdc in next, sc in next 5, 2 sc in next.

RND 2 - 2 sc in first sc of last rnd, sc in next 8 sts, *2 sc in next, sc in next* 3 times, sc in next 8, 2 sc in next, sc in next.

RND 3 - 2 sc in next, sc in next 9, 2 sc in next, *sc in next, 2sc in next* 3 times, sc in next 9, 2 sc in next, sc in next, ss in next, ch 1, turn.

RND 4 - Working in back loops only, sc in each st around (34), ss to join. (forms into sole with ridge with yarn from chain in the inside of boot)

BOOT

RND 5-6 - Change to color B ch 1 & do not turn. Working both loops, *sc in each around, ss to join, ch1, do not turn * 2 times. (mark 6th st from beginning and 5th st from end of first row) Put insole in place after weaving in stray yarn on both boot sole and insole.

RND 7 - ch1, sc in next 11 sts, sk next, hdc in next, sk next, dc in next, dc next 2 sts together, dc in next, sk next, hdc in next, sk next, sc in next 12, st to join.

RND 8 - ch 1, sk next, sc in next 9, sk next, sc in next, sk next, sc in next 2, sk next, sc in next, sk next, sc in next 10, sk last, st to join.

RND 9 - ch 1, sc in next 7, (skip next, sc in next) 3 times, sk next, sc in next 9, sk last, ss to join.

RND 10 - ch 1, using front loops only sc in next 7, sk 1, sc next 2, sk 1, Sc next 9, st to join.

RND 11-13 – ch1, Continuing with front loops only, sc each st round (18st), st to join, tie off.

TRIM AND FINISHING TOUCHES
Tie elastic to first marked stitch. Weave elastic from st mark to st mark across front of boot. Tie off at second st mark. (It is ok if it shows, it will be covered with icicle or baby clouds)

Using tapestry needle and icicle (threaded button style using both strands of thread. Try and make long so you do not have to tie off and re-tread). Tie on at last st. Oversew/overcast each st around. Tie off. (When stitching with icicle or baby clouds use loose stitches to better simulate the sheepskin look)

Rethread needle only using only 1 strand for stitches, tie on at side of boot top directly above where elastic was tied off. Using a backstitch, stitch in a straight line down to elastic. Continue using back stitch following over top of elastic to other side of boot, then continue up to top of the boot. Tie off and weave in ends. (simulates seam on real Uggs, look at picture for a visual guide).

Thank you so much for this pattern! I'm a beginner, and have been unable to make booties until your pattern. Great Job! Any chance of a pattern for bigger sizes, for slippers for older children and adults? They would make a great present!

Somewhere in here theres an adult pattern.

These are soooo cute!! You are very talented!

I'm a bit confused. I ch 10 to begin the sole, but as I'm finishing it it doesn't end at 34stitches. It ends at like 30 or 31. What am I doing wrong?

Anonymous said...

SO CUTE! I am impressed! New at crocheting so may not take this on for awhile, but hope to eventually.

Anonymous said...

I am also confused the stitches do not add up on the insole. I am using baby cloud. chain 6 but the stitch count you give and leaving the last chain unworked you would need its 3 chains short. so should it be chain 10? also the other insole does not add up either.

To the above comment. It is 5 hdc in the same ch. This creates the rounding out so you can then work down the other side.

Love These! You're so wonderful to post a great Free pattern especially during these hard economic times! Thank You!

Hey There... are you the designer or creator of this pattern?

My name is Michael, creative director of Mikeyssmail on Youtube... Nearly 3 Million Viewers...

I was told to come and look at your pattern to make a tutorial in video format.

What I do... is do your entire pattern in video... I won't copy your pattern to Youtube, but give you a direct link from the videos to your blog. You can expect 100's possibly thousands of people.

This is strictly volunteer. I am paid a bit of money through Google Partnership with advertising revenues on my channel, but it's nothing significant.

Would you be willing to allow me to do your pattern in video format?

Let me know if you are interested,

Take Care,

Michael

The pattern does not add up, the bottom (sole) starting with the chain 10, you'd need 14 to not work in the last chain. Move on to round 2 and you are about 10 stiches off. Ive been crocheting for years, and tried several times to understand this patter, unfortunatly it just doesn't add up. They look cute however with whichever pattern you used!

In responce to the last comment. I am not sure what does not add up. The only thing I can think of is "5 hdc in next" means you do 5 hdc in the same st. This goes same for the next row when the pattern says in the next- it mean all worked in the next st. Let me know if that is not what was unclear. -Pam

I just made one of these and it turned out pretty good the only issue is I thin I used to thin of a yarn because there are holes from having to skip stitches

Have you given permission to Michael (Mikeyssmail) to make a video of your pattern? His videos are awesome! I made a cute pair of Mary Jane Booties from his video and they turned out terrific!

These look fab! The pattern is quite easy to understand. I've started making them and have gotten to round 7 - I'm not sure what it means by "dc next 2 sts together" ?? Can anyone help me out? I haven't come across this term before, is it the same as 2dc in the same st? I'd appreciate some HELP PLEASE :0)

Kyromaniac said...

WHOOPS! No worries, I've just clicked that it's dc2tog, I've only ever seen it in shorthand, lol ;0) Got it now.

These are super cute. Note: One could use puff fabric paint and put small dots on them to help little walkers on the slick floors. Just a thought! I cant wait to try these.

Love these uggs. I have made about 10 pairs in all different yarn weights and just adjust hook to suit. Also made a few just a bit larger by starting with 12 stitches and adjusting to correspond with each row and decreasing one more row at top of foot. Thanks so much for free pattern.

Could you tell me where the elastic will go please? Does it go around the ankle where you see the icicle and what type of elastic is it, elastic thread?

Renee said...

Love this pattern! I made only 1, actually, as a gift for my Ugg-loving sister-in-law. As she's 20 years old she won't fit it, but it'll make a fun christmas tree decoration :D

Thanks so much!

hello this is chanel from mikeys helpdesk...
i got your question about ugg type boots in bigger sizes...un fortunatley mikey doesnt have anything like this in his collection of videos or patterns...your best bet is to look around on youtube for a video tutorial or google it to find it on the web....you might want to try www.raverly.com or www.allfreecrochet.com....
hope this helps...chanel :)

sharla said...

thanks you so much very much chanel, what I did was use a larger size needle. My thing now is When I make the soles for the shoe, the both came out being twoleft feet,is there a way to fix it, lol thank you.

Hi there, I'd like to try your pattern but am not sure what "do not use the last ch, pull through to front" means. Could you please explain it for me?

Anonymous said...

Why do some rounds say "ss to join" and others say "st to join"? Is there a difference?

Dee said...

Hi there! Crochetholic here... love your pattern. Just to let your viewers know- I've also found the miscount issue.1- Just keep track of your stitches and avoid joining as much as possible (makes for smooth seamless finish). 2- In order to make them larger, (for my 10 year old daughter ) size 3/4. I used 2 strands of chenille, & 3 strands of Bernat Bamboo with a size P-11.50 mm hook for the instep / insole. Conveniently, and ironically, it feels just like her. Heaven! Which happens to be her first name. As I go further, I will make more notations as to ways to help ( Pam, only if you don't mind :√} ).Good night and good luck to all.

Okay, had a chance to sleep, so I'm somewhat refreshepd. Now, for the soles. I've found that by completely reversing the instructions (from after the chain 10) you can actually make an opposite of the first foot. Please be advised: As I stated before counting stitches as you go helps (stitch markers help also). Not sure how I got to 34 @ the end, but I guess w/ enough trial & error, it's something you'll figure out. Anyways, I fasten off @ the end of round 4 & join w/ new colors working the ends of old and new into the stitches of round 5, as I go. Btw, I used 4 strands of Red Heart in a tan-ish color, 4 strands of a medium brown color, & 2 of a light yellow (both by TMA Yarns). Will send Facebook address so you can see my steps and finished project. Again, thank you Pam. I could never have tackled this feat w/o your instructions & inspiration.
