About Me:  I have been crocheting for 15 years. I learned to crochet as a Girl Scout in High School and kept going in college as a way to reduce stress. By day I am a Geospatial Analyst and a yarn-a-holic hooker by night. Over the years I have crocheted everything for hat and scarves to cat butts and banana cozies. I currently live in Ohio with my boyfriend, dog and 3 cats.

The inspiration for this pattern came from a traditional cable pattern and my fondness for corner to corner (c2c) patterns. This pattern is worked in 2 parts. A corner to corner section that includes cabled and post stitches and a single crochet border section worked in the round. This pattern represents me as a designer because it looks like a normal cable but it is a little bit different. The 45 degree tilt of the stitches provides a nice modern contrast to traditional crochet patterns.If you never made a corner to corner square you start with 2 stitches and increase each row by adding stitches in the first and last stitches. This starts to create a triangle. You keep on increasing the triangle until the short sides of the triangle are the lengths of the 2 sides of the square. Then you start the decreases in the first and last stitches of each row. You continue this until there are 2 stitches left.

Supplies:

Approximately 120 yards of worsted/aran weight yarn. (The white and yellow square was made with Red Heart Super Saver. The green and yellow square was made with Red Heart with Love in Lettuce and Daffodil. The stripped square was made with Red Heart Super Saver in Derby Stripes. )

Size H hook (if you are a tight crocheter I suggest using a size I hook)

2 Stitch markers (optional)

Stitch Guide: (This pattern is written in standard US Crochet Terms)

Ch = Chain

St = stitch

Sc = Single Crochet

Slst = Slip Stitch

HDC = Half Double Crochet

HDC2TOG = HDC 2 stitches together

DC = Double Crochet

FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet

BPDC = Back Post Double Crochet

FPTC = Front Post Triple Crochet

Turn = 1 chain and turn project

Cable Stitch Pattern = Skip the next 3 DC stitches. FPTC in each of the next 3 stitches. Go back to the 1st skipped stitch and FPTC in that stitch. FPTC in the next 2 stitches. The next stitch made will be in the following HDC.

Note: The Turn includes a ch 1. At the end of each row you should be chaining 1 and turning the project. If you are a super tight crocheter or your project keeps curling, try making a looser turning chain.

Gauge: For a 12-inch square, after the first 10 rows the triangle will measure 5.5 inches on the long site and 4 in on the short sides. If you are using a larger/smaller hook or different weight yarn your gauge will vary.
