The Yarn
This pattern uses Knit Picks CotLin DK yarn, which is a blend of 70% tanguis cotton and 30% linen. Cotton lends a lightweight softness to the yarn while the linen has a very low elasticity, ensuring your finished garment will not lose shape with wear. 100% cotton yarns tend to stretch when repeatedly worn, so look for cotton blends when choosing alternative yarns for your pullover.
Among the colors of CotLin yarn available, I chose “swan” and “planetarium” to create a nautical look reminiscent of summer nights spent by the water. However, any color combination will compliment the color work of the crochet pullover. While the yolk portion of the pullover takes a little bit of time, once you reach the color changes, the pullover works up quickly.

- Stitch counts are listed in parenthesis at the end of each row or round as follows (XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL)
- The sc rows are worked on the wrong side (inside the sweater), while the dc rows are worked on the right side (outside of the sweater) – this is important to note when joining the yarn for the sleeves (if the right side of the double crochet rows is not facing you, turn the sweater inside out before joining the yarn to create the sleeves)
- For simplicity, the pattern does not specify where to place one decrease (dc2tog) in the rounds of the sleeves. The decrease can be placed anywhere in the round, but do not decrease in the same place each round. In other words, disperse your decreases within your rounds.

The crochet ribbing will add 2.5” to your sleeve length, if you want your sleeves to be longer, add rows at this point with color B. To add rows, continue to alternate Rnd 1 & Rnd 2, without decreasing any further. End with Rnd 1.
Repeat sleeve instructions for opposite side.
Finishing
SLEEVE RIBBING:
- ch 13
- sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each remaining ch (12 sts)
- sl st into the next available sc st on the edge of the sleeve cuff, sl st into the 2nd available sc st
- Turn your work so that you are ready to work back up the row of sc sts that was just created. Sk the sl sts you just created, and BLO sc into the 1st sc st, BLO sc into next 10 sts, sc through both loops of the last sc st (12 sts)
- ch 1, turn so you are working back down the row of sc sts, sc through both loops of the 1st sc st, BLO sc in next 11 sts (12 sts)
- Repeat steps 3-5 around the cuff of the sleeve
- When no further stitches remain to work into around the cuff of the sleeve, sl st into the 1st sc st worked through and fasten off.
- Use a tapestry needle to whip stitch the edges of the crochet ribbing closed. Fasten off and weave in ends.
BOTTOM EDGE RIBBING:
Attach a new strand of yarn anywhere along the bottom of the sweater with a sl st. Follow the steps for “SLEEVE RIBBING,” beginning step 1 with ch 9 (instead of ch 13.) The stitch count for steps 2-6 should be 8 sts (instead of 12.)
COLLAR:
Attach a new strand of yarn in color B anywhere on the back neck of the sweater
