Recently, while scrolling through Pinterest, I saw this new stitch and thought it was so cute! I have never seen this, “Block Stitch” and thought it would work great as a baby blanket stitch! This could be done larger or smaller, just work always in multiples of four plus your 1 chain for turns and it will work out perfect!

Here is the free pattern!

(With White Yarn)

Row 1: Chain 81, sc in second ch. from hook, ch. 3, skip 3 ch., sc, ch. 3, skip 3, repeat this pattern across. At the end, you will have 21 sc and 20 spaces. Switch colors, ch. 2, turn.

(With Green Yarn)

Row 2: Do 3 dc in the first space (the chain counts a the 4th dc). Ch. 1. Do 4 dc across in each space. At the end, work 3 dc and then 1 dc in the sc at the end. Change colors to white. Ch. 2, turn.

Note: You will always work 3 dc in the beginning and end block. The first one has the ch. 2 as the 4th and the last one has a dc in the sc.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until your reach row 30.

At the end of row 30, finish off.

For your border, switch to white and dc around the blanket. Place 3 dc in each corner.

Tuck in all of your ends!

That’s it! What do you think? Do you think you will make this blanket? Have you tried the block stitch before? I would love to hear about it!

Happy Crochet!
