This little vest has been in my design journal since last fall. Can you believe it? What was I waiting on?!? I’m so glad that I finally put my plan into action. From the first row of stitching, everything has fallen into place with this vest. Ya’ll, that almost NEVER happens. Happy happy happy.

The Yarn

When it came to deciding what yarn to use, I had a few things to consider. 1- I knew I wanted to make this piece for myself. I live in Houston. A little thing about Houston- it’s hot. Like, H-O-T. 90% of the year. So, a cotton or cotton blend was necessary. 2- The “waterfall” front of the vest requires a lighter weight yarn that will allow for great drape. 3- I didn’t want to break the bank with this. Ample yardage per cake/skein would be best because I’m not a small bodied person. Short, yes, but a bit on the fluffy side. 4- I wanted the yarn to be accessible. Immediately. I wanted to start right away and being able to run over to my local Walmart/Joann/Michaels to pick this up was perfect. And I know you want to start right away, too. See? Convenient 😀

So I ended up with a lovely self striping yarn.

THE EVERYTHING VEST

You hear it all the time: This will go with everything. But really, the Cascade Falls Vest actually will. I’ve worn it with dressy style shorts and a nice top, with some breezy white linen shorts & tank, black slacks and an ultra-light button up, and as seen here with my capri jeans and my favorite black tee.

Since you like the Cascade Falls, these might interest you too?

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?

How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?

Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.

It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.

All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.

About The Pattern

As with all of my patterns, this is sized from XS to 6X. An all-season garment accessory for the adventurous beginner. Basic stitches are used to create this vest, but the lighter weight yarn gives some people a little pause. If this is you, I would like to encourage you to try this one out. The different stitch patterns are simple and easy to memorize as you work through the rows.

Notes

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • All measurements given are unblocked.
  • Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
  • Read pattern instructions carefully before beginning to make sure you understand everything. It might save you hours frogging your work & crocheting it again!
  • Make a swatch that measures at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger (more details).
  • Check yarn info if you want to find an alternative or test your yarn against the gauge. Learn more about substituting yarn.
