Jewel’s Crochet Flower Motif Pattern

If you follow me on Instagram you have probably seen or read about my cat, Darla. Darla is 16 years old, crabby, and my cat by her choice. The kids have always wanted to hold her, cuddle her, baby her, sleep with her, and just plain love her. Unfortunately, Darla doesn’t want any of it from them. Just from me and my mom, and a little from my husband if food is involved. Everyone else gets grunts or hisses before she runs off.

So, this spring we decided to adopt two kittens, one for each of the girls to have their own cat to spoil. We welcomed into our house a white girl kitty named Jewel, and a brown boy that was quickly named Donut. They have been perfect additions to our family.

What do young girls do with new kittens? They pretend that they are their babies. Out comes all the baby doll furniture and accessories, including a doll size blanket that I made for Donut’s owner. Once Donut was tucked in all snugly with a crochet blanket, well, that meant that Jewel needed one. Since another one couldn’t be found that
would work for precious Jewel, one had to be made.

Out came all of the crochet stitch pattern books and the center flower motif was determined and agreed upon that it would be appropriate for Jewel. I thought I was done with that, but no – it needed to be bigger. When I asked for more detail I got a wave of the hand for me to just figure it out. So, the motif came from somewhere, I didn’t pay any attention to what I did, and I didn’t write it down. Once it looked pretty good to me I asked and it was finally was accepted as suitable enough for Jewel.

The next time my mom came over she was shown Jewel with her new blanket. My mom thought Jewel was just precious and that the blanket motif was so cute. She said I needed to write the pattern. So I did!

I hope this motif sparks as much creativity and shares as much love as it did for our house.
