Happy Tuesday and happy November everyone! Where did the time go? It felt like just last week I was living in tank tops but now I’m ready to snuggle up in scarves (like today’s Sherbet Cowl crochet pattern) and blankets. Anyone else feel a bit whiplashy from the weather? Am I going to talk about weather this whole post? I definitely hope not. 😀

I really am not going to talk about the weather exclusively in this post. Sure, it’s at the front of my mind when it’s freezing in the middle of the night but… we’re here to talk about fighting the cold away with cozy cozy scarves. Specifically cowl scarves. I love cowl scarves, don’t you? I love just being able to throw one on and go. I’m a bit clumsy so it’s nice not to have to worry about catching my scarf tails on things (or in doors… I may have done that). And because I love cowls, I wanted to make one for the first post of November.

Now because November isn’t a super cold month here in Southern California, I wanted to make a fun design that’s light enough to wear here but easy enough to make bigger and cozier any where you might be. This is especially true because the Shawl in a Ball that I used to make this design with is on the thinner side of a Medium weight yarn. Of course I turned to the Sherbet Line for this pattern, it’s got lovely texture and is so simple you could make it in now time. You could easily adjust this pattern to make it thick with a bulky yarn and add chains (in multiples of 2) to make it big enough to wrap around a couple times.

Get creative and have fun with this super simple pattern! I can’t wait to see what you make. Don’t forget to share photos with the hashtag #DivineDebris

  • Rnd: Round
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Hdc: half double crochet
  • Hdcc: half double crochet cluster (explained below)
  • Join: slip st into the first st of the rnd

Notes

  • Hdcc (half double crochet cluster): (this stitch is worked into two stitches) yarn over, insert your hook into the first st, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert your hook into the next st, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all 5 loops on your hook, ch 1. This stitch is worked like a hdc2tog and a ch 1 that count together as one stitch. When working into this stitch, you will work into the hdctog and the ch 1 space.
  • This pattern is worked in one piece from the bottom up.
  • The ch-1 at the beginning of the rnds does not count as a stitch.
  • The ch-2 at the beginning of the rnd does count as a stitch (as noted within the pattern).
  • This pattern is very easy to make larger or smaller. For the original ch row, add or subtract stitches in multiples of 2. Add more rows to make it taller.
  • The yarn used on this design was Shawl in a Ball by Lion Brand Yarn in Healing Teal.
