Crochet Men’s Scarf Pattern by Salty Pearl Crochet
The best crochet patterns for men use subtle combinations of textured crochet stitches. By using texture instead of color to add visual interest, you can achieve an interesting but not overstated look that even a picky guy would be willing to wear. (If he ever gets cold enough, that is!)
This long, fringed crochet scarf uses a combination of double crochet, the lemon peel stitch, the camel stitch, and just a row or two of crochet star stitches to create a scarf your guy will love to wear.
Even better? Because it features long, full fringed edges, you don’t have to weave in your starting or ending tail. Just make sure it’s longer than you’d like your fringe to be- which is about 9-10 inches for my scarf.

Materials
- H/5.0mm Crochet Hook;
- 3 skeins Paintbox Yarns Wool Mix Aran, Worsted [4] weight, 50% Wool, 50% acrylic yarn, 3.5oz/100g; 196yds/180m, shown in Stormy Gray (804);
- Yarn Needle;
- Scissors.
Abbreviations in U.S. Terms
- Ch – chain;
- Dc – double crochet;
- Fhdc – foundation half double crochet;
- Hdc – half double crochet;
- Lp – loop;
- Sc – single crochet;
- Sk – skip;
- St – stitch;
- * Repeat instructions after asterisk as indicated..
Gauge / Finished Size
- 16 st and 7 rows dc per 4” (10 cm). Scarf measures 6.5” (16.5 cm) wide by 80” (203 cm) after blocking.
Special Stitches
- HDC through 3rd loop: Yarn over, insert your hook under the 3rd loop of the st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
- Working Back through 3rd loop: Yarn over, insert hook in stitch indicated from back to front, then use hook to bring the 3rd loop behind work, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook. You can see a video tutorial for this technique and an alternative below.
- Star Stitch: For the first star in round, ch 3, pick up a loop in the 2nd ch from hook and next 4 spaces (6 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops on hook, ch 1 to complete st. For next stitches, pick up a loop in the center of previous star, in the legs of previous star, in the same st as previous st, and next 2 sts (6 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.
Notes
- To achieve the knit look of the ridged rows, you’ll need to work back through the 3rd loop on the “right” side of the work. If you’re uncomfortable with this method, you can achieve a very similar look by working through the back loop only on those rows. - Row 1: Fhdc 25. [25] (Alternately, Ch 26, hdc in 2nd ch and across.)
- Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in 3rd lp, hdc across. [25]
- Row 3: Ch 1, turn, working back through the 3rd lp, hdc across. [25]
- Row 4: Ch 1, turn, working in 3rd lp, hdc across. [25]
- Row 5: Ch 3, turn, work the star stitch across the row, placing a hdc in the last stitch. [12 stars, 1 hdc]
- Row 6: Ch 1, turn, work 2 sc into the center of each star, and 1 sc into the top of the final star. [25]
- Row 7: Ch 1, turn, hdc across. [25]
- Row 8: Ch 1, turn, working in 3rd lp, hdc across. [25]
- Row 9: Ch 1, turn, working back through the 3rd lp, hdc across. [25]
- Row 10: Ch 1, turn, working in 3rd lp, hdc across. [25]
- Row 11: Ch 1, working back through the 3rd lp, sc in first st, *dc in next st, sc in next st,* repeat * to * across. [13 sc, 12 dc]

- Row 54: Ch 1, turn, working through 3rd lp, hdc across. [25]
