With the last scraps of Katia Concept Ultralight Merino that I still had from my Tunisian Crochet Concept Cowl, I made this easy Tunisian Crochet Concept Headband.
This is actually the second scrap-yarn project I made using this yarn after my Basic Fingerless Gloves that I published a couple of weeks ago.
So, altogether, if you happen to put your hands on a ball of Katia Concept Ultralight Merino, you can make yourself a pair of gloves and a headband!

The Design
This headband is very easy and you can crochet it using your regular crochet hook, as long as it doesn’t have any fancy, big handles.
The stitch that I used for this headband is a slight modification of the classical honeycomb stitch.
While in the classical honeycomb you alternate Tunisian simple stitches and Tunisian purl stitches every row, here you will have to repeat the same row twice.
This way, you obtain a sort of right-leaning diagonal pattern.
Or am I the only one seeing it?
It is also interesting to compare this texture with the one of the diagonal lattice stitch that I used for another headband and for my Tunisian crochet Poncho.
It is always amazing to see how many different textures you can get by simply combining basic Tunisian crochet stitches!

Materials
- Super Bulky (5-6 wpi) Weight Yarn. I used Katia Concept Ultralight Merino (color 61).
- 9.0-mm (13/M USA, 00 UK) Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
For this pattern, you can use your regular crochet hook as long as it does not have a large handle!

Yarn Substitutions
The pattern of the Tunisian Crochet Concept Headband will work well if you use the indicated yarn, which is Katia Concept Ultralight Merino.
Keep in mind that this yarn is extremely soft and stretchy.
However, if you are going to use a less stretchy yarn, you might have to add a few more rows to the pattern to obtain the same fit.

Standard Tunisian Return
Yo, pull through the first loop on your hook, *yo, pull through two loops*. Repeat in between * for all the loops until you will only have one remaining loop on your hook.
Pattern Notes
- The first stitch is included in the stitch count.
- The last stitch is worked under both loops of the final ch from the previous row.
- Throughout the pattern, the stitch count is always 12 sts.
- The instructions below only describe the forward pass. The return pass is always a standard Tunisian return.
Size
The pattern is written to fit an adult M (Head Circumference of 20-21″, 53-56 cm).
Unstretched length before seaming: 17” (43 cm)
Keep in mind that Katia Concept Ultralight Merino is very stretchy. If you are using a different yarn, you might have to add a few more rows to your headband!
Gauge
Working in alternate tss and tps: 12 sts for 9 rows in 10 cm (4”).
Tunisian Crochet Concept Headband – Free Pattern
Ch 12.
Foundation Row. Working in the back bumps, insert your hook into the second ch from the hook, yo, pull up a loop. Pull up a loop in every ch.
Row 1. (Start working from the second vertical bar because the very first one corresponds to the loop on your hook!) (Tss 1, Tps 1) until the end. Work the last st by inserting your hook in both loops of the last st.
Row 2. Repeat row 1.
Row 3. (Start working from the second vertical bar because the very first one corresponds to the loop on your hook!) (Tps 1, Tss 1) until the end. Work the last st by inserting your hook in both loops of the last st.
Row 4. Repeat row 3.
Row 5-36. Repeat rows 1-4 nine times.
Row 37-38. Repeat rows 1-2 one more time.
Bind off your work by sl st in each st.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for seaming.
Finishing
- Lay your headband flat with the wrong side facing up.
- Fold the headband so that the two short sides touch each other.
- Using the tail of yarn, seam the two short sides together.
- Roll the tail of yarn around the seamed point making as many turns as you like.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
