Down time? Let’s spruce up our home décor! I tried a new stitch that I completely fell in love with. The only problem was that I couldn’t decide which color combination to go with so I ended up with a double sided pillow! Try it out and let me know what you think! I included some additional screen shots to help you through the trickier areas, hope they help!

Pattern Notes:

Do not be intimidated by this stitch, it looks much more difficult than it actually is! I promise! This pattern is worked in rounds with the right side always facing you. It will alternate between the Main Colour (MC) and one of the ombre colors along the way. This is slightly different than an infinity brioche stitch (which has you turn to wrong side to have an additional “cross-over” pattern) but I liked the simplicity this version offered – especially if this is the first time you’re trying it out. I made my pillow with two colour combinations but that is entirely up to your preference.

• Colors are changed on every round in joining ss (unless otherwise stated in the pattern). Yarn is not cut after every round but is carried behind on WS.
• Long stitches (front post and back post) are made around sts of same color from two rounds below.
• All chain spaces (except ch2-sps in the corners) will be skipped and stay behind front post sts.

· 4.50mm crochet hook
· Medium weight, 100% cotton yarns with the following colour distributions:

Main Color (this will be the lines that carry throughout the pattern)

• Side A: Light Pink (1000 yds)
• Side B: White (1000 yds)

• Side A:
  • Light Grey (200 yds)

• Side B:
  • Light Pink (200 yds)
  • Medium Pink (200 yds)
  • Dark Pink (200 yds)

· Tapestry Needle
· 20in pillow or stuffing

20 Stitches by 24 rows = 4” (10 cm) on 4.50 mm crochet hook

Pattern:

*Make 2 panels:

Round 1: With Yarn A. Make magic ring, ch1 (doesn’t count as a st), 8sc into ring, tighten ring, join with ss in first sc – 8 sc

Round 2: Ch4 (counts as first dc and ch2-sp – here and throughout), *dc in same st, ch2, skip next st, dc in next st, ch2; rep from * two more times, dc in same st, ch2, join with ss in first sp (change to Yarn B ) – 8 dc, 8 ch2-sps

Round 3: With Yarn B. Ch1 (doesn’t count as a st – here and throughout), *ch2, sc in same sp, ch2, skip next dc, dc in skipped st of Round 1 directly below in front of chains, ch2, skip next dc, sc in next sp; rep from * three more times, join with ss in first sp (change to Yarn A by grabbing it up behind work) – 8 sc, 4 dc, 12 ch2-sps

Round 4: With Yarn A. Ch1, *ch2, sc in same sp in the corner, [ch2, skip next st, FPdc around st of same color below] until last st before corner, ch2, skip next sc, sc in next sp in the corner; rep from * three more times, join with ss in first sp (change to Yarn B) – 8 sc, 8 FPdc, 16 ch2-sps

Round 5: With Yarn B. As Round 4 – change to Yarn A in joining ss – 8 sc, 12 FPdc, 20 ch2-sps

Round 6: With Yarn A. Ch1, *ch2, sc in same sp in the corner, ch2, skip next st, FPdc around sc of same color below, ch2, skip next st and FPdc of same color below, FPtr around next FPdc of same color below, ch2, FPtr around skipped FPdc of same color below, ch2, FPdc around next sc of same color below, ch2, skip next st, sc in next sp in the corner; rep from * three more times, join with ss in first sp (change to Yarn B) – 8 sc, 8 FPdc, 8 FPtr, 24 ch2-sps

Round 7: With Yarn B. Ch1, *ch2, sc in same sp in the corner, [ch2, skip next st, FPdc around next st of same color below] twice, ch2, brdc inside next “V” below, [ch2, skip next st, FPdc around next st of same color below] twice, ch2, skip next st, sc in next sp in the corner; rep from * three more times, join with ss in first sp (change to Yarn A) – 8 sc, 16 FPdc, 4 brdc, 28 ch2-sps

Round 8: With Yarn A. Ch1, *ch2, sc in same sp in the corner, [ch2, skip next st, FPdc around next st of same color below] until last sc before the corner, ch2, skip next sc, sc in sp in the corner; rep from * three more times, join with ss in first sp (change to Yarn B), 8 sc, 24 FPdc, 32 ch2-sps

At this point you have created a full cycle of the pattern repeat. You will continue to work in rounds, adding stitches and increasing size along the way.

Repeat round 3-8 in sequence, changing colour B as often as your ombre pattern allows. I changed colours after 3in of length accumulated (approx. every 11-12 rounds). End with a MC round. Bind off last row and weave in ends.

Finishing:

Align both panels with ws facing each other. Using MC (or color of your choice if you are making 2 different color sides like I did), starting at a corner, sc through the last round of both panels. The right side should be facing outward. Sc along the length of the side until you are at the corner, place 3 sc in the ch-2 sp and continue in sc along the sides. When you have 3 sides completed, place the pillow in the pocked you have just created. You may need to adjust, pull, stretch or fluff, to get it to fit snug but it will! Continue in sc along the last side. Bind off, weave in.
