Crochet Pastel Flower Doily
Story behind the name
Pertevniyal literally means "Descended from Radiance". She was wife to Sultan Mahmud II, and valide sultan to their son Sultan Abdulaziz of the Ottoman Empire. She was named in Ottoman style for her beauty and charm. Doily is inspired by the mosque (1867-1871) which was built for her and looks mesmerazing the same way. This is one of the most beautifully constructed mosques in Istanbul. I pass by it almost everyday and since I was a child I could never take my eyes of it. The details are not clear in the photos but it has a delicate lacey appearence.
This pattern contains instructions written in standard American crochet terminology, in English language. No other versions of the pattern are available (no graphs, videos or translations.)
Skill Level: Advanced beginner. This is a clearly written and easy to follow pattern, but intermediate level crochet knowledge is recommended. Instructions for special stitches are not included.
The pattern consists of 25 rounds.
Speacial stitches and abbreviations
- Pc (Popcorn Stitch): Make 5 dc in the same st/sp. Remove your hook from the last st and insert it into the first dc of the 5-dc group. Grab the last st with your hook and pull it through the first st, ch1 (doesn’t count as a st).
- ch-3 picot: ch 3, sl st in the first ch
- ch-5 picot: ch 5, sl st in the first ch
- Shell: (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in st or ch sp indicated
Ch = chain chain
ss = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
sc = single crochet
tr = treble double crochet
sp = space
sk= skip
mr = magic ring
FPDC = front post dpouble crochet
V-st = v stitch
BLO = back loop only
Notes:
The first st of a round is worked as a standing st, or is replaced by:
sc - ch 1
hdc - ch 2
dc - ch 3
tr - ch 4
Close each round with a sl st to the first st, or an invisible join
Suggested yarn: Kartopu etamin
Crochet hook: 1,50 mm.(any kind of thread with a matching crochet hook)
Crochet skill level is advanced. You will need to work front and back post stitches, clusters, two stitches together and popcorns.
