Jasmine Stitch Triangle Scarf Free Pattern

If you saw the how to increase and decrease jasmine stitch tutorial (video below), then you got a sneak peak of this beautiful triangle scarf. Well, now you can get the free pattern! This pattern will create a triangle that is very nearly an equilateral triangle, which is a dramatic, fun shape to wear! Just keep in mind that if you choose to scale up the pattern to make a larger shawl, it will be rather long in the back! If you do it, I’d love to see a picture!

Supplies

  • Size E crochet hook
  • Laceweight yarn. I used approximately 4oz/975yds of a local handpainted alpaca yarn from Firwood Farm Alpacas (1095yds/4.5oz). This pattern is worked from the long edge toward the point, so err on the side of having too much yarn. It’d be no fun to run out right before the point of the scarf!

How to Decrease Jasmine Stitch

In case you missed it, I made a YouTube video showing how to increase and decrease jasmine stitch. The first part of the video shows how to do jasmine stitch. Then I show how I do the decreases for this shawl. I’m going to call them turn decreases, because they’re decreases that happen as you turn the row!

The key to remember is that as you’re going to turn the row, you’ll work all the way to the end of the row you’re finishing, but you won’t make the chain puff that you would normally make for jasmine stitch. You’ll pull up a loop, turn, yo and pull up a loop in the same stitch twice, then yo and pull up a loop in the next stitch twice. You’ll have two bunches of loops on your hook – 9 loops total. Then you’ll finish this stitch just like for a normal jasmine stitch. This is shown in the video above!

Jasmine Stitch Triangle Scarf Pattern

The actual pattern for this shawl is shockingly simple, once you’ve got the basic stitches down. Here it is!

  • Chain puff 71 (jasmine stitch starting chain. You can also see this in the video linked above) For a larger scarf/shawl, increase the starting chain puff amount.
  • Turn Decrease, then jasmine stitch across (all the way to the end!)
  • Repeat the row above until you reach the point of the shawl. Each row will decrease the stitch count by one stitch. Your last row will have just the turn decrease, then finish off!
