This blanket makes a great baby blanket, but it’s big enough to use as a throw for an adult. I like to wrap it around my shoulders while I’m working if it’s a little chilly. It’s a perfect size for that!

I’m also guessing that my babies aren’t alone in loving to be able to poke their little fingers through the holes in their blankets. The triple crochet stitches in this blanket leave plenty of room for little fingers to explore! You can get the complete free pattern below, or pick up the ad-free printable PDF version of this pattern here:

Supplies

  • Crochet Hook Size J (6mm) (I used Clover – love them! Pick one up here!)
  • WeCrochet Brava Worsted Yarn (100g/218y per ball) or similar. Total finished weight is approximately 530g:
    • White, 1 ball
    • Celestial, 1 ball
    • Mulberry, 1 ball
    • Peapod, 1 ball
    • Red, 1 ball
    • Orange, 1 ball
    • Canary, 1 ball

Gauge/Finished Size

3 rows and 8 stitches = 3″

Finished measurements are approximately 36″ wide by 59″ long, though this blanket is quite stretchy!

To adjust size, add stitches in multiples of 12 to the starting chain to increase width, and add equal numbers of rows to each colored section to increase length.

Stitch Abbreviations

  • ch Chain
  • yo Yarn Over
  • st(s) Stitch(es)
  • tc Triple Crochet
  • tc2tog Triple Crochet 2 Together (modified, see special stitches below)

Pattern Notes

This blanket uses a simple pattern repeat that you will probably remember after the first couple of rows, making for blissful, zen-like crochet time.

This pattern includes a free YouTube video tutorial – see below!

If you struggle with having a tight starting chain, as I do, I recommend using a larger crochet hook for the starting chain. For my blanket, I used a size N hook for the starting chain, then switched to the size J for the rest of the blanket.

Each row starts and ends with 2tr worked in the same stitch. At the end of the row, there will be 2tr in the last stitch, but only 1 tr in the second to last stitch.

Special Stitches

In this pattern, I used a modified version of the triple crochet 2 together. You can see this stitch in the video tutorial linked above, or follow these directions:

yo twice, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and pull up a loop, insert hook in next stitch, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through three loops on your hook, then yo and pull through two loops twice to finish the triple crochet.

You can do a standard tr2tog instead, if you’d like, but it will take a little bit more yarn, and it will give the blanket a slightly less loose look. It’ll still be fabulous though!
