The Joy Wrap is a fantastic spring and summer accessory. You can make it as long as you prefer. With this one I wanted one a little bit longer.
Living on the coast in the UK the wind can be a little chilly, even in summer, so I like to have something to cover my shoulders and chest on family walks and when out with the dogs.
I have spent many years stuck in a rut with being comfortable wearing darker colours and jeans so I also wanted something that screamed summer and made me smile! The self striping yarn I used for this one does just that.

The Yarn
This pattern requires a #3 weight or DK yarn. I used less than 2 skeins (around 1150 yards) of Stylecraft Batik swirl in meadow. It had been sitting in my stash for a little while (the left-overs from a previous project) and I knew it would be perfect for what I had in mind.
Stylecraft is one of those yarns that is available almost everywhere here. Its such a good quality yarn and looks fantastic when it’s worked up. The range is super and its a good price so really was a no-brainer for me. Any #3 weight yarn or double knit will work for this pattern. Our testers seemed to favour Lionbrand Mandala and the cake yarns. I think this would also look great in a solid colour too. It would be stunning as a wrap for a bride to have handy on her wedding day. You could also use your dk stash and scraps, manipulating the colours yourself.
Its a super versatile pattern that looks good in any choice of yarn. I used dk weight for the nice drape but if you want it chunkier for the colder weather you can use a light #4 weight such as Caron simply soft.
YOU WILL BE SURPRISED HOW EASY THE JOY WRAP IS TO MAKE!
This design actually took me out of my comfort zone. Usually my designs are ones that you can snuggle into and wrap yourself up in on those colder days. My ideal day is a brisk walk along the beach with my dogs followed by curling up on the sofa with a hot drink and an old movie. I think my designs tend to reflect this. I set out with this one to challenge myself to come up with a more lacy and feminine design that everyone would have fun crocheting!
As I mentioned above, the Joy Wrap is suitable for every skill level whether you are just starting your crochet journey or have been travelling it for some time! This pattern really is super easy – it uses only chains and single crochet with about 10 double crochets thrown in. And, I hope you agree, it looks stunning! You can leave it unblocked for a ‘bouncier’ look like I did or block it to give it more structure and show off the effect the stitch pattern a little more.

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?
How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?
Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.
It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.
All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.
Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.

About The Pattern
This is one size fits most. My wrap measures 65” x 13.5” unblocked. You can adjust the length by adding multiples of 6 to the starting chain. This pattern took me about 5 hours to make in total so it is a great option to gift or make a couple of for a special occasion such as a wedding – I think this would be stunning in white, cream or ivory for a bride and the accent colour for bridesmaids gifts! Because of its size, and despite it being in #3 weight yarn, it could also double up as a great scarf in winter. It is one of those pieces that you will always find a way of wearing despite the weather.
