A Cozy Knit Look Crochet Scarf Pattern

My latest free crochet pattern is a knit-look crochet scarf. It’s cozy, warm, and perfect for the wintertime.

This pattern is made with super bulky weight yarn and uses basic crochet stitches, like half double crochet. It’s a fun fast crochet project!

So if you like knit-like textures and working with chunky yarns, I think you’ll love working up this pattern.

Crochet Stitches That Look Knitted

One thing that I love about this scarf is the texture. I love how you can use basic crochet stitches to create a knit-like effect.

So in this pattern, you will be making 2 different versions of half double crochet. The first one you will make is your basic half double crochet, then you will make a half double crochet in the back loop, and then you’ll make a half double crochet in the third loop.

By repeating these stitches every other row, you get a knitted look. Pretty neat right?

Alright, so now that we’ve got that covered, let’s talk about the yarn.

The Yarn You’ll Need for This Crochet Scarf

For this crochet pattern, you will need 3 skeins of a number 6 super bulky weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn in the color Gray Marble. It’s an acrylic/wool blend mix that’s perfect to use for scarves.

As the name states, it’s a super thick yarn that works up quickly! It’s also really soft and comes in a variety of different colors. I loved using this yarn for this project and definitely recommend it, however, any number 6 weight yarn will do.

You could even double up a worsted weight yarn to create a bulky yarn, so check your yarn stash to see what you have.

Materials:

• 3 skeins of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick in the color Grey Marble (Weight 6/ 6 oz, 106 yds), a total of 318 yards or you can use another number 6 bulky weight yarn.
• 10.00 mm (N) Crochet Hook.
• Darning Needle.
• Scissors.
• Optional – Stitch Markers.

Gauge:

8 stitches x 6 rows = 4 inch square in half double crochet back loop only.

Abbreviations:

ch – chain: Yarn over, pull through loop on hook.

ss – slip stitch: Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook.

hdc – half double crochet: Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch. Yarn over one more time and pull through last three loops on hook.

hdc blo – half double crochet back loop only: Yarn over, insert hook into back loop of stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch. Yarn over one more time and pull through last three loops on hook.

hdc 3blo – half double crochet 3rd back loop only: Yarn over, insert hook into 3rd loop of stitch, yarn over, and pull through stitch. Yarn over one more time and pull through last three loops on hook.

note: the third loop is on the back of your half double crochet stitch, not the top of the stitch.

• Chain 2 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.

Row 1: In 2nd chain from hook, work 1 hdc, and continue to make a hdc in each chain till the end of the row (142).

Row 2: ch 2, turn, hdc 3blo in the first stitch, and across till the end of the row (142).

Row 3: ch 2, turn, hdc blo in the first stitch, and across till the end of the row (142).

Row 4: Repeat row 2.

Row 5: Repeat row 3.

Row 6: Repeat row 2.

Row 7: Repeat row 3.

Row 8: Repeat row 2.

Row 9: Repeat row 3.

Row 10: ch 2, turn, ss in the first stitch, and across till the end of the row (142).

Finish off and weave in your ends.
