Stormy Stripes Scarf

Striped Crochet Scarf Pattern by HanJan Crochet

Hi! I’m Hannah – the designer, writer, photographer and tea maker behind HanJan Crochet. I’m so happy to be here on Underground Crafter and meet you! I began designing almost 9 years ago after I learned to crochet but was completely incapable of sticking to a pattern so just started writing my own instead. Since then I have been on an amazing journey to publish in magazines, books, and on my blog, too.

Beautifully delicate and effortless to wear, this crochet winter scarf is perfect for staying warm, cosy and looking good too. Worked with a textured post stitch to create a grid like illusion and finished off with a fabulous deep fringe.

The Stormy Stripes Scarf is the perfect project for anyone looking for a but of mindful crochet to escape into. The simple two row repeat is rhythmical and calming whilst the colour play and post stitch placement offers enough to keep you busy. Carrying your yarn means absolutely no ends to sew in either!

Add the fringe to the scarf

  • Make and join 7 tassels evenly spaced to each end of the scarf by doing the following:
  • Cut 10 lengths of 40cm yarn of each colour (20 strands for each tassel in total)
  • Hold the 20 strands of yarn together and using a larger crochet hook loop and secure them through your chosen stitch on the edge of the scarf.
  • Once you have joined all the tassels, trim them to neaten them up.

How to customise your scarf to suit you

  • The scarf is really easy to customise!
  • To make it thinner/wider then just subtract/add to your foundation row making sure you plan where you are going to add/subtract the ‘lines’ from first.
  • To make it shorter/longer then just subtract/add pattern repeats (Rows 4 and 5) to you desired length.
