You are now viewing the Grape Fields Shawl by guest designer Coffee & Crocheting.

Dreaming of walking on a field a warm summer evening. The winds are fresh but a bit chilly making you wrap this shawl even closer. Simple stitches combined with lace make this shawl interesting but neutral. Use one colour to tone it down or use it as a stash buster with nice stripes. The lace repeat is easy and you’ll pick it up fast.

The Yarn

Paintbox Yarns Simply DK or other DK / 8 ply / 11 wpi / 3-weight yarn. The wrap in the picture is made using acrylics but it would also work great in wool or cotton. Make it in one colour or why not as a stash buster with many colours?

Yarn usage: 1100 m / 1200 y wrap in picture uses 4 colours. Around 350 m / 383 y in vanilla cream, 250 m / 274 y in stormy grey, vintage pink and light caramel. 1 skein of Paintbox Yarns Simply DK is 276 m / 304 y.

MAKE A SHAWL PERFECT FOR YOU

A nice big shawl to wrap around you on a chilly summer or fall evening or to cover up your shoulders on a wedding party or similar. It also works great to wrap around you over a t-shirt and some jeans for a day shopping. The possibilities are endless. Make it fun by mixing and matching colours or make it elegant and neutral using only one colour.

By changing yarn weight you can change the look and feel of the project. Use a fingering or lace weight yarn to make it thin and delicate or use an aran weight or bulky to make it big and cozy.

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?

How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?

Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.

It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.

All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.

Notes

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • All measurements given are unblocked.
  • Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
  • Read pattern instructions carefully before beginning to make sure you understand everything. It might save you hours frogging your work & crocheting it again!
  • Gauge is not as important for this pattern but a different gauge will change the size of the finished shawl. You can easily make it larger by adding more rows and smaller by skipping rows. A larger yarn weight would make it chunky and oversized, perfect for a cold winter day.
Make a swatch that measure at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger (more details).
  • Check yarn info if you want to find an alternative or test your yarn against the gauge. Learn more about substituting yarn.
  • This pattern is written for 1 size.
  • At the end of each row, the stitch count is given in parenthesis.
  • If making it in 4 colours the colours are indicated in the pattern. If no colour in beginning of the row it means you continue with the same colour as you had on previous row.
  • Chains do not count as stitches, except for Ch 3 in the beginning of the row which counts as 1 DC.
  • The  [DC, ch 3, 3 DC – CL] count as 5 sts.
  • The sk st does not count as st.
  • The  [DC, ch 3, 3 DC – CL] should be placed in the DC of the [DC, ch 3, 3 DC – CL] from previous row (see picture later on).
