Diamond Crochet Fair Isle Beanie Free Pattern
One of the things that I love about crochet is how many different ways there are to play with color. Fair Isle Crochet is a terrific technique that mimics the look of very classic knitting. I've used the Split Single Crochet Stitch for this crochet fair isle beanie free pattern to create that design. With two colors and a geometric pattern, this hat is a fun, bold accessory. Make one for everyone in the family from baby up through grandpa. And if you've gotten hooked on colorwork, also check out the Forest Brooks Crochet Beanie and the Rumplemintz Crochet Pattern.

Split Single Crochet Stitch
You can use different stitches to create fair isle crochet patterns. Of course, stitches that mimic knit stitches make the most sense for this type of design. The Split Single Crochet Stitch, therefore, is a terrific selection. It's a variation on single crochet that's a little bit denser, making it perfect for a hat pattern. It's also called knit stitch or waistcoat stitch.

About The Kindred Yarn
The Diamond Crochet Fair Isle Beanie free pattern uses a wonderful yarn from WeCrochet called Kindred. I chose this yarn because it has terrific softness and drape. It is a DK weight yarn that comes in 11 beautiful colors.
I chose Goldenrod as the main color for this hat because I originally designed this hat to raise awareness about childhood cancer. It was part of the annual Cancer Challenge hosted by Sweet Potato 3, which I'm always happy to participate in Gold is the represented color for that cause, and it works well with the blue I paired it with. That said, you can choose any two colors that you love to work this pattern.
Is The Crochet Fair Isle Beanie A Chemo Cap?
Although the hat isn't specifically designed as a chemo cap, it could be worn as one. A chemo cap is worn by a patient going through chemotherapy. One of the most important features of such a hat is the yarn that you choose. The individual's skin is very sensitive at this time. Therefore, you need a soft, comfortable yarn. Kindred is a blend of Peruvian wool and cotton. It's a very soft yarn that is comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Diamond Fair Isle Beanie Notes
This beanie pattern is worked from the bottom up, and uses the Split Single Crochet Stitch (ssc) also know as the waistcoat stitch or the knit stitch.
The ribbing is worked in rows and the ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch. When creating ribbing go up a hook size or slip stitch loosely.
The beanie is worked in continuous rounds without joining, use a stitch marker at the beginning of the round.
