Crochet Cat Toy – Free Crochet pattern

Are you looking to make a cat toy for your kitten to help with teething? Well this Crochet Cat toy can solve that!

We got a kitten last month and I noticed a bad smell coming from him every time we played. I decided to look it up online and I found out that he has bad breath because he was teething!

I found out a few things. One is that biting something that is net like is good for their teeth an can help keep them clean as well as biting into something cat help hem loosen their teeth. Also having it be lightweight so they can carry it around is a must.

I thought to myself…crochet is like a net and is light weight!

Okay check, what next?

The second thing I read is about colors, he said “think Easter” Pastel colors can be calming and the color white they see as just shiny so it excites them! So I grabbed white plus 3 other colors that screamed Easter to me.

My daughter insisted that I make one big enough that he can belly claw at it. This is the one you see him pictured with. He would hug it and sleep with it, but I’ve never seen him attack it.

As for the smaller ones though…I’ve seen him drag those all over the house. I attached a chain to one of them and wrapped it around the scratching post tower and he played with in on and off for hours!

I used the pictures from when I made the larger one, so that you could better see what I was doing. But this pattern is for the smaller size one. If you want to make the bigger one, you can. Just add 2 more rows of regular hat increases.

To start:

Ch 3 and sl st in beg ch to form a ring.

Round 1

Ch 1 and sc 12 into ring.

Place a stitch Marker because you’ll be working in one continuous round from now on. I stopped 1/3 of the way through and would add catnip inside.

Rounds 2 – 6

SC in all sts. (12 sts)

STUFF YOUR PIECE

Rounds 7 – 15

SC in all sts. (12 sts)

ADD CAT NIP

Rounds 16 – 23

SC in all sts. (12 sts)

STUFF YOUR PIECE

Then SC Decrease 6 times. 12 sts now. Sl st in next st and ch 1. Leaving a long tail for weaving, cut yarn.

Thread your tapestry needle and weave in in between your 6 sts. Pull tight and hide tail.
