Who doesn’t know someone who needs a pair of unicorn crochet slippers?

With a simple slipper crochet pattern to cover an existing pair, just add the amigurumi unicorn head, horn, eyes and of course the mane to make a truly stunning set of slippers perfect for gifts or as a treat for yourself.

If you’ve never ventured into creating some fun crochet slippers then these might be the ones for you. The sole and toes are simple to whip up then there’s just a little amigurumi crochet unicorn to sit atop and you’re done.

About the Unicorn Crochet Slippers Pattern

I designed these cute unicorn slippers back in 2017 and until that point I’d only ever designed crochet slippers or boots for very little feet!

My wrap around baby boots, crochet reindeer baby boots and baby ballet pumps are prime examples – I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy making for big feet but I loved it!

These unicorn ones might look a little intimidating to start with but once you break them down into the individual parts it’s easier than you might think!

How to Crochet the Unicorn Crochet Slippers

There are a few key steps to the construction of the unicorn slippers.

  1. Begin with the basic base and sole of the design and join them together to encase an existing slipper sole.
  2. Add a toe section that your amigurumi unicorn head will attach to.
  3. Create the individual parts of the crochet unicorn – the head, horn, eyes, ears, wings, tail and mane.
  4. Sew and/or crochet all the individual parts onto the crochet slippers.

The great thing about adding the unicorn head and features afterwards means that if you don’t fancy crocheting the actual slippers then you can just make the unicorn and add it to an existing pair!

If you don’t have time to make the slippers right now then make sure you pin them for later with the image below so you can come back to them when you’re ready.

The Crochet Slippers Tension and Sizing Options

The slipper cover fits UK foot size 4-7 (25cm (9 3/4 in) length).

Tension (gauge) isn’t critical as the slipper cover will stretch to fit sole.

This means that if you want to cover a slightly smaller or larger slipper then this pattern should work nicely. You might need to just work to Round 7 for a smaller size but try the sole as you go and decide from there.

The wonderful news is that the amigurumi unicorn will fit pretty much any size of slipper you like! So, you can definitely just add it to a children’s slipper and it will look fabulous.

Yarn for these Unicorn Crochet Slip-ons

To make these crochet slippers I used DROPS Muskat– 100% cotton, 50g/100m. It’s a really soft and easy yarn to work with that has a great sheen making it perfect for this project.

You will need:

4 Balls of White (18)

1 Ball of each: Light Blue (02), Light Mint (20), Lilac (04), Peach (10), Light Yellow (07), and Black (17)

You will also need a spool of DROPS Glitter- 10g/700m for the glitter detail.

A great alternative yarn if you want something more natural-looking and with less sheen then Cotlin DK by WeCrochet is a great option. It has a little linen in it making it feel really luxurious and comes in a lovely range of muted tones.

Pattern Notes

Before we get to the pattern, there are a few important notes to make sure you read though first. These will really help to set out on the right track and avoid any mistakes.

The ch1 at the beg of a row or round does not count as a st.

Slipper tops are worked in rounds that are joined.

Add eyes, ears, horn and nose to unicorn head before sewing head to slipper base.

Use 3.5mm hook throughout unless told otherwise.

Apart from inner ears and wings, unicorn head parts are worked continuously in a spiral without closing off each round with a ss.

It may help to use a stitch marker in the first st of each round, moving it up as you work.
