This stunning floral granny square cushion pattern is perfectly balanced with intricate square motifs sitting next to the simple, modern panel to really make them shine.

The plain back gives you an alternative to easily change the look of your sofa or bed with just a pop of colour for the crochet pillow edging.

There seems to be such a love for floral crochet and granny squares so this is my take on both of those ideas. You could easily switch the colours and balance around though to tailor it to your own decor and taste of course!

About the Floral Granny Square Cushion Crochet Pattern

I have always loved making crochet blankets from motifs. My favourites are my square motif crochet blanket, my chunky super size Alexa blanket for bigger makes and my Criss Cross solid granny square blanket and Flora Quilt flower crochet blanket for something a bit different.

It wasn’t until recently though that I realised that they are perfect for crochet cushions or pillows too!

Like so many people I love crocheting granny squares but I’m always looking to add something a little more to my designs so this little spin on the square is great fun and I’ve set it against a really simple stitch section to really focus in on the post stitch detail of the squares.

The pattern is an intermediate level but there are only four rounds to the floral crochet motif and so once you have that under your belt you will be fabulous!

Granny Square Day 2021

I’m also really excited to say that I’ve been asked to be a Granny Square Day Ambassador for 2021 by Simply Crochet Magazine!

I absolutely love playing with squares, motifs and such like and so if you love them as much as me then you’ll probably also enjoy my rainbow granny square sweater pattern, learning how I turned a granny square blanket into a cardigan and all about the history of the granny square too.

Yarn

To make the floral cushion I used James C. Brett It’s Pure Cotton DK yarn.

It’s a beautiful yarn to work with that is 100% Cotton (100g/215m).

Colours I used were

YARN A: White IC04

YARN B: Pink IC10

YARN C: Lilac IC03

A great alternative yarn if you wanted to stick with cotton is Debbie Bliss Cotton DK at 84m/50g or Cotlin by WeCrochet which is 70% cotton and 30% linen so has a beautiful weight and feel to it.

If you’re thinking of using acrylic yarn then Stylecraft Special DK would be a great option as it’s 100% acrylic, 295m/100g and comes in a huge range of shades so you could really have fun with your colour selection.

Joining crochet square motifs

I know that sewing or seaming crochet together can really be a mystery or source of stress for lots of people!

I used to be the same until I decided to learn some techniques for joining crochet squares together – it completely changed the way I think about joining pieces of crochet and it not only applies to motifs but to anything with panels that need seaming!

I used a slip stitch seam for the motifs in this crochet cushion but you can choose whichever suits you best of course.

Step by Step Floral Granny Square Photos

I thought it might be helpful to also add some round by round images of the floral crochet motif just in case you’re new to motifs and find pictures helpful.

Round 1:

Round 2

Round 3:

Round 4:

And that’s it! You can easily adapt the pattern of course by adding as many motifs to the front (and back!) as you like of course and really make it your own!
