The Spiked Granny Stitch

Create this beautifully crocheted scarf using the spiked granny stitch. I just love the look that is created with that double crochet completed in the previous row. When crocheting a white yarn on top of other colors, it always reminds me of snow in that first row that is completed with the white.

Sewing Yarn Ends…Yes, There are a Few…

This is an easy pattern to crochet; however, be warned, there are quite enough yarn ends to weave in. Sometimes if there was only two colors and they were changed every other row, it is easy to carry the yarn up the side. Especially when making a blanket as you can add a border which covers up any yarn carrying anyway. That is not the case with this scarf. Therefore, I must be honest and tell you that it did take me about 2 hours to sew in the yarn ends securely.

No matter, I think the end result is worth it.

Christmas Caroling with Joyful Holiday Colors

My daughter, son-in-law, and myself are in a local choir. The month of December brings many Holiday concerts at local nursing homes and churches. This addition of a brightly colored accessory helps create a cheerful and fun event.

Pattern: Joyful Holiday Crochet Scarf Pattern

Size

8.5 Inches Wide X 64 Inches Long.

Adjusting the Scarf Size

When adjusting the length, just increase or decrease the number of rows. This scarf is 147 rows. Additionally, I purposely started with white and ended with white. That way, it looks better when the ends of the scarf are close together. To adjust the width, increase or decrease the beginning chain. This crochet pattern is worked in multiples of 4 + 1. That means that the beginning chain needs to be divisible by 4 plus 1. This pattern started with 29 stitches. 28 divided by 4 = 7. Plus 1. Therefore, 28 + 1 = 29.

Joyful Holiday Crochet Scarf Pattern Color Rows

After every 3 rows, the color is changed. I chose to change the color on the odd rows so there are a few less yarn ends to weave in and all of the ends are not weaved in on the same side.

Begin

White for the first three rows. Rows 1-3

Change to Paddy Green for the next three rows. Rows 4-6

Then change to Burgundy for the next three rows. Rows 7-9

Continue alternating the colors in this manner, White would be next for 3 rows. and so on.

There are a total of 147 rows.

I ended with the White yarn because I started with it. Looks nice when the ends of the scarf are together. It gives the scarf a symmetrical look to it.
