This Fall Triangle Shawl Pattern for Beginners was inspired by the beautiful fall sunsets with seasonal changing of leaves colors as the temperatures begin to drop in the evening. When the evenings get longer, and the days get shorter we will have a beautiful color palette to view outside.

If you are a newer crocheter, you can crochet this lovely pattern. Once you have mastered the double crochet and chain stitch, you are ready to make this easy crochet shawl pattern. Even if you are an experienced crocheter, you will appreciate the simple construction of this triangular shawl.
The beautiful shawl has a pattern repeat of two rows. Start at the bottom tip of the shawl and continue to grow the size of the shawl increasing stitches with each row and working up the lacy shawl. The triangle shape is achieved by increasing stitches in each row by 4 stitches.
Crochet Pattern Using Fingering Yarn
The yarn used today is a fingering yarn that changes yarn colors on its own throughout the yarn cake. I was always afraid to use a fingering yarn because I thought it would be hard to work with. However, once I tried using it, I fell in love.
It has such a beautiful drape and feel. The shawls made with this light yarn turn out so gorgeous. They always take on the look of a light and lacy shawl it seems no matter what stitch pattern I end up using.
They have just enough coverage without being too bulky. For me, it is a perfect yarn for this pattern. I would not recommend a thick yarn for this wrap pattern, but it would still work with a number 3 or 4 yarn weight.
Yarn Cake Color
Another thing I wanted to touch upon is the main color of the shawl. When starting the yarn cake, whatever color you start with will be the largest color section of the shawl. In the pattern I made today, I started with the yellow/gold color. If I would have started with the darker color, the yellow/gold would end up being the accent color.

A shawl is a type of clothing that can be worn around the body to serve various purposes. They come in all shapes and sizes but are usually rectangular, square, or triangle edges for wrapping around your shoulders when warmth is needed most!
I wear mine everywhere during winter months because it keeps me cozy without feeling too bulky on top as you change clothes frequently throughout day. Just throw over a shirt and jeans and you will look dressed up and put together while taking the chill off.
How Long Does It Take to Crochet a Shawl?
While the speed at which everyone crochets is different, in general, it takes me a week to crochet a shawl like this when I am watching television with my family. Because my hands and arms get tired after crocheting for a few hours, generally break up a project like this and get it accomplished over about 7 days. So, if I were to time myself making this shawl, I would way it took me approximately 20 hours to get this finished.
How to Crochet a Triangle Shawl for Beginners
This is a simple pattern where the shawl is worked from the bottom up. It starts at the bottom tip of the shawl, which is the narrowest point. As you continue to crochet the rows, the number of stitches within each row continues to increase as you move up the shawl.
For this pattern from row three on, you will be increasing by 4 stitches for each row.
Crochet Shawl for an Advanced Beginner
Once you have mastered basic stitches like the double crochet and chain stitch you are ready to make your first triangle shawl.
The skill level for this crochet pattern is great for an advanced beginner. The stitch pattern of double crochet stitches means this pattern is easy, and even an advanced beginner should be able to crochet this without too much trouble.
I love easy crochet patterns like this as it means I can spend time with my family enjoying a movie and make something beautiful at the same time.
The beauty of this shawl is that using a yarn cake that changes color with the variegated yarn makes this easy too. I do not have to take the time to weave in a sorts of yarn ends. There are just two and that just takes a few minutes. A crochet pattern like this lets the beauty of the yarn shine through.

35 ½ inches long X 83 inches wide
Gauge
Gauge is not critical in this crochet pattern; however, I had 20 stitches per 4 inches.
Materials
Cotton Kings color number 12 from Hobbi. 874 yards. The yarn I used is from Hobbi. However, any fingering or yarn would work up to a medium 4 weight.

Pattern Notes
Each row starting with row 2 begins with a chain 3 and 2 double crochet in the same stitch.
Each row ends with 3 double crochet in the top chain 3 space of the previous row. (The last stitch of the row).
When you end the row (before the final 3 double crochet stitches), sometimes you will end with a chain space, other times a double crochet. This is a forgiving pattern. As you progress along each row, make sure that each stitch either has a double crochet stitch or a chain stitch. The increases are only done on the beginning and end of the row.
Each row increases by 4 stitches. The stitch count is noted in parenthesis at the end of each row.
Continue to repeat rows 4 and 5 until the desired length and width or you run out of yarn.

3 DC in the 4th CH from the hook (3DC plus the 3 skipped chain stitches which count as a DC = 4 DC).
Row 2
CH 3 (Counts as DC) 2 DC in same ST. DC in each ST across. End with 3 DC in the top chain 3 SP of the previous row. (The last stitch of the row). (8DC)
Row 3
CH 3 (Counts as DC) 2 DC in same ST. CH 1, SK 1, DC in next 2 STs. CH 1, SK 1, DC in next 2 STs. End with 3 DC in the top chain 3 SP of the previous row. (10 DC, 2 CH).
Row 4
CH 3 (Counts as DC) 2 DC in same ST. DC in each ST across. End with 3 DC in the top chain 3 SP of the previous row. (16 DC)
Row 5
CH 3 (Counts as DC) 2 DC in same ST. [CH 1, SK 1, DC in next 2 STs]. Repeat across between the [ ]. End with 3 DC in the top chain 3 SP of the previous row. (15 DC, 5 CH = 20 STs)

Weave in yarn ends and remove the excess yarn.

Hello ! Thank you for sharing your lovely patterns and videos. I have one suggestion, if I may. It would be to hold your hands more still when making your videos and not moving the objuects around quite so much. It is somtimes very difficult to see what you are referring to when there is too much movement. Keep up the good work and being creative with your ideas!
