A Crochet Scarf for Men

If you’re looking to make a scarf for the man in your life or just want to crochet a scarf, I think you’ll like this pattern.

It’s a fairly simple pattern that uses an easy 2-row repeat and a bulky weight yarn. It’s also full of texture and super cozy! It’s the perfect scarf to keep you warm on cold days.

My husband wore this scarf on a very windy day at the beach. He ended up taking it off after a while because it was so warm. So if you’re looking for a scarf for colder weather days, this would be the one to make.

The idea behind this design was to create a scarf that was simple in design, yet offered a bit of texture. I also wanted to make my husband another scarf that he could wear, so this is the crochet design that I came up with.

It’s an oversized scarf that resembles a knitted look, but it’s completely made out of single crochets and chain spaces. I also decided to go up on the recommended hook size, to create a flowier look for the scarf. I found that the smaller hook size created a bit of a stiffer look.

Still pretty, but I wanted to create a drapey crochet scarf.

A Crochet Scarf That Looks Knitted

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know that I love creating crochet designs that look like their knitted (if you do too, you might like this crochet stitch that looks like knitting). I just love how you can create a knitted look without picking up two needles.

So when I was looking at different stitches for this scarf pattern, I knew that I wanted to find something that looked a little bit like knitting. One stitch came to mind, the Granite Stitch.

The Granite Stitch is a stitch that’s made up of single crochets and chain spaces. It’s a very simple stitch to make and it provides a lot of texture. It also looks a bit like knitting. What do you think?

So when I was testing this stitch out for this design, I thought it looked so pretty! Plus, using a bigger hook, really made this stitch pop. I just loved how it looked!

The Size of This Classic Men’s Crochet Scarf

I decided to make this men’s crochet scarf a bit longer, so the length for this crochet scarf is 69″ inches and it’s 9″ inches wide. It’ll keep you warm, that’s for sure!

If you want to adjust the length of a scarf to make it longer or shorter, all you need to do is adjust the number of starting chains. You also need to take count of the multiple for the stitches used in the pattern.

So to make it longer, add additional chains, and to make it shorter, decrease the number of chains.

For this crochet men’s scarf, the multiple is an even number. So you want to start with an even number and then follow the pattern as is.

The Yarn You’ll Need for This Easy Crochet Scarf Pattern

For this free crochet scarf pattern, you will need 2 balls of Lion Brand Hue + Me yarn in the color Juniper. It’s a bulky weight blended yarn that’s made from acrylic and wool.

I loved using this yarn for this pattern and highly recommend it. But you can use any bulky weight yarn for this scarf. I chose to work with a dark grey/green hue, but there is 18 colors total, so you can totally choose a different color.

You could even do two different colors and alternate between each row. What color are you going to make?
