Citrus Fruits Potholder – Free Tapestry Crochet Pattern

Refresh your summer kitchen decor with this tapestry crochet Citrus Fruits Potholder!

Tapestry Crochet Lemon & Orange Potholder - Free Crochet Pattern - Raffamusa Designs

You probably noticed that normally, I only use two colors for my tapestry crochet potholders.

However, for this one, I wanted to bring all the summer colors into my kitchen, and used three different colors!

The technique is the same as usual, tapestry crochet worked flat. However, on some rows, we will have some sections worked in white and yellow, and some sections in white and green!

Of course, I say yellow because I made a lemon hot pad. But feel free to make one in orange if you love oranges, or use some pink or red yarn to get a grapefruit trivet!

A YEAR OF POTHOLDERS

The tapestry crochet Citrus Fruits Potholder is part of my tapestry collection A Year of Potholders, a sort of calendar made of tapestry crochet hot pads.

Keep in mind that the free patterns here on the blog will only have the written instructions, while the PDF and ebook have both written instructions and color charts!

PATTERN NOTES

  • The pattern is written in 2 sections. The Potholder is worked in rows, the Border in rounds.
  • The potholder is worked entirely in sc.
  • If the pattern says “(A) 5”, you need to sc 1 in each of the next 5 sts using color A.
  • At the end of each row, ch 1 and turn.
  • The initial ch 1 does NOT count as a st.
  • All odd-numbered rows are crocheted on the right side. All even-numbered rows are crocheted on the wrong side.
  • (…) – Repeat the instructions within brackets for the indicated number of times.
  • With the exception of the border, the stitch count is always 34 sts.
  • The color chart of the potholder can be found in the PDF pattern.

Note. This potholder has some rows where 3 colors are needed. This does not mean that you need to crochet with 3 colors. Instead, always work with 2 strands of yarn and only carry the color you need for a given section of the pattern.

In more detail:

  • Rows 1-4. Work with A and B sts 1-16, and with A and C sts 17-34.
  • Rows 9-20. Work with A and C sts 1-7, and with A and B sts 8-34.
  • Rows 27-29. Work with A and B sts 1-29, and with A and C sts 30-34.
  • Rows 30-32. Work with A and B sts 1-12, and with A and C sts 13-34.

Border

After row 32, you are still facing the WS and both A and B are at the left, top corner (if you are right-handed, or the right corner if you are left-handed).

Fasten off B.

With A, ch 1, and turn (RS). Now, the yarn is at the right, top corner of the RS. If you’re lefthanded, that would be the left, top corner!

Round 1 (RS). Sc 34 on the top side of the potholder. At the corner, ch 1, and start working on the next side. Sc 32 on the left side, ch 1, sc 34 on the bottom, ch 1, sc 32 on the right side of the potholder. Ch 1, and join the round with a sl st into the first st. (32 sts on top and bottom, 34 sts on left and right sides, 1 ch at each corner).

Hanging Loop. Ch 1, turn (WS). Ch 14 (15 chs in total). Sl st into next st of the border to form a loop. Ch 1, turn (RS). Sc 18 inside the loop you just created.

Note. Sc inside the loop, not into the chs!

Fasten off, and weave in all your ends.
