Free Crochet Pattern – Stained Glass Stripes Beanie

If there were any month to be crocheting a hat, November would have to be it. For some in the snowier climates, Mother Nature has already laid down a blanket of fluffy white winter. There’s no snow here in New England…yet. But the cold is looming, as is Christmas, so I’ll make it short. Crochet a hat for yourself to keep warm, crochet a hat for your loved ones as holiday gifts. Everybody wins.

Once you get the basics of single crochet and double crochet down pat, it’s fun to play around with post stitches. Working around the “post” of the stitch instead of through the top loops adds texture and visual interest. In this hat, front post stitches cover over the previous round, creating a little window of stripes and vertical textured lines. If you have never done a post stitch before, Crochet for Dummies has a great visual tutorial to help you out: Front-Post Crochet Stitches

Neon just seems to make it’s way into many of my hats (80’s child), but this pattern would look lovely in a vast array of colors, or even a single color. I always love to see pictures, so feel free to share on Facebook, Twitter, or Ravelry. You can add this pattern to your queue here: Free Crochet Pattern, Stained Glass Stripes Beanie
