All Weather Taupe Slouch Hat

This past winter, I made quite a few winter hats and ear warmers like the Clusters and Stripes Ear Warmer Headband or the Jess Mess-y Bun Hat. Those kinds of projects are fun and fast and I liked giving them away as gifts.

I had been eyeing some yarn at the store, Caron Simply Soft Taupe, for a few weeks, never knowing just what I would do with it. One day, on a whim, two skeins ended up in my cart. It was just so pretty. The yarn actually sat in my stash for a few more weeks before I decided to do anything with it. Can anyone relate?

So I busted out my trusty book of stitches…

On a side note, I just have to say that I LOVE this book! I just bought it in mid 2016, but there are so many different stitches included—ones I’ve never seen. It’s awesome that when I’m thinking about starting a project and I’m not completely sure which way I’m going to head, I get out The Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs (with its 500 stitches, by the way… Whoa!) and flip through it until I find something that I love. That’s what happened with the All Weather Taupe Slouch Hat.

At almost the end of the book, I found the posts and shells stitch on page 310. I wasn’t sure how to do decreases with this stitch to make a beanie style hat so I got the idea to just make a long tube and then stitch up the end.

Voila! Instant slouch hat.

It’s that easy, folks. No decreases and no complicated stitches.

The All Weather Taupe Slouch Hat is one of my absolute favorites!

Because of the open nature of the stitches, I think this hat would also work as an all-weather slouch—for the teenagers and adults who like to wear slouch hats all year.

And true to my obsession with sets, I made a matching infinity scarf. How could I not? If you’d like to get the pattern for the matching scarf, click here and it will take you to it. Be sure to make both to complete the set!

Note: Some other winter wear patterns available are the Navy Clusters Hat and matching Infinity Scarf, the Cream Clusters Extra Long Infinity Scarf and Mimi’s Ear Warmer Headband.
